I have a question thats probably been answered a thousand zillion times but...here goes....

Do the settlers actually DO anything useful?? as far as i've experienced they show up,loiter and make it a point to be a)in the way and b)a bloody nuisance with their constant whining about Raiders,Ferals,Mutants and whatnot... At this point i´ve given up on Settlements,I avoid Garvey and his rag-tag bunch of annoying, crybaby b*tches.. but maybe it's something i've missed??.. maybe, just maybe,an epiphany will hit the combined population of lazy-ass Settlers and they'll actually do something close to logical?.. silly things like washing their grimy faces, cleaning the debris from the settlements or how about repairing the (insert word of your own choosing) houses??.. as it is,and the reason i've abandoned the lazy gits, they do zilch,nada,nothing.. oh,I know you can make supply lines and build stores and bobs your uncle but why the (again, insert word) do they not clean the mess up?? i bothers the crap out of me,realistically anybody with half a brain would know that hygeine and sanitation is extremely important in a hostile environment, there´s a reason the first step in building a FBO is Clean water and latrines.. but maybe the Dev´s never considered that? that paints a horrid picture in my mind, their poor families and friends deserve recognition of their bravery and kind hearts if common sense and general hygeine is´nt even on the list of priorities... so,someone, please explain and give me a tiny reason to build and maintain Settlements and putting up with Garvey and his Miniscule-men??

You have to assign them to jobs, like harvesting crops, tending stores and whatnot. I've heard they gather salvage if you don't but I was bringing so much haul I contaminated the pool.

But let's be frank: settlement building is an utter waste of time. It adds nothing to the game. If you like it, do it, but it's completely optional.

This completely useless thing is keeping me in this game, otherwise I'd be off and playing other things.

Settlers need jobs - shopkeepers, farmers, scrap gatherers etc. So while they might complain, they do things if you give them things to do. Otherwise they'll sit and look distant in the sunset.

The sims in fallout crap had the completely opposite effect on me I quit playing the game and uninstalled it. I'm sure a mod will fix it later or maybe I would have made the mod myself later when the rebranded CK comes out but most of this game just feels like a total waste of time. Waiting for EmoEx pert Deuuuu to come out sometime this year and see how that goes. Some places say march and some say august so who knows for sure. Hopefully it is more in depth than the last game which was just and OCD fest for finding free stuff and hoarding it with cartoon graphics and horrible boss fights. I carried that missile launcher around for nothing, those fights were so easy. Too bad they brought the same emo character back for the sequel I just hope the ending isn't another A, B or C turd. If it is that might be a good indicator of what we will get from the next mass effect game. I am tired of crap games they are a total waste of time and investment of thought. I don't just like to play games I like to throw my imagination around at them too almost all the time either playing them or not and it really sucks to be s#*! on by devs with crap endings and crap game design or horrible writing.

An idea I had for a settlement mod, the whole thing is already built but disabled until the player puts all the required resources into the workshop then POOF it spawns except for the recruitment beacon. The player gets all the xp from each piece of the settlement added up and then they just have to build the recruitment beacon and power it. Make any kind of guns and stuff they want the settlers to use and the settlers would get one of each or whatever and drop their stuff in the workshop if it was inferior to what they were taking out. Settlers would be auto assigned to jobs AND beds so they player doesn't have to do that s#*! anymore.

I get this idea from the convo between player and preston when he reports the beacon has been setup and goal accomplished, the context of their convo suggests this is how it actually should be playing but maybe the company just didn't want to make all the scripts for it or whatever.
