ERASERhead1
@direwolf Thank you...that would be extremely helpful to people like me who have retextured over 90% of the game manually. I am not looking forward to narrowing this down. It might be worth making a new thread of listed texture files users have found that cause a CTD. UPDATE: Well I now know it is a texture in my props folder. Unfortunately I have over 400 files in props. Once I find the file causing the CTD I will post in this thread unless a new one is made. UPDATE 2: Found it... Fallout4/Data/Textures/props/cigar: CigarSingle_d.ddsCigarSingle_g.ddsCigarSingle_n.dds These must have been from a mod overhaul/retexture project as I don't see any standalone mods that replace these files. Unfortunately I do not know which mod these files came from. For that I apologize.
JuJooGuppy
I have yet to update because, well, I don't want to deal with this headache. But I am trying to prepare for when 1.3 goes live, if this isn't resolved.. since its revolving around mod content, and they don't "officially" support mods currently, I am concerned 1.3 will launch like this, so.What I am gathering from reading everyones post, is this isn't a particular texture issue. I don't think listing the textures in particular is going to help; I believe that this is some random issue. Perhaps when the game has loaded a set amount of "loose" textures, or maybe loose textures in general can have a random corruption loading, or something. I have no idea, not my area of expertise. It just seems apparent that, when people are using some of the same mods but yet its different textures causing the issue, that it's something random related to loose texture files, and NOT the texture itself. By removing your personal texture issue, you are only treating the symptoms, not the cause.Thats my 2 cents. Any ideas going forward? I am sure someone is going to take this as evidence bethesda is trying to kill all mods lol.
steve40
Gore Overhaul 3 caused CTDs for me when loading my last save, after having installed the 1.3 beta patch. I narrowed it down to two textures: data\textures\gore\gorehumanhead_n.dds (this file is a ridiculous 21.8 Mb in size - indicating a problem with the file format or compression - it appears to be RGB uncompressed)data\textures\gore\gorebasebits_s.dds (5.5 Mb in size. I have an image viewing program called DXTViewer - it cannot read this image, so it is somehow corrupted) I fixed these two textures by loading them into Photoshop with the NVidia plugin and resaving them as 3DC files, with the option "use existing mipmaps" selected. Now I no longer get CTDs when loading my last save.
direwolf34
Thanks Eraser, I'm about to post a new topic with a list of textures we have so far, I'll update the list to include what you have there. @JujooGuppy I get what your saying, and this whole thing is just plain weird how can a texture that is working fine in the prior patch throw a monkey wrench into it with beta, I don't have the tools though to really trouble shoot the textures themselves but I want to play the game with the improvements the beta is giving, so like the Mr. handy in vault 101 I'm amputating the leg to fix the sprained toe. Also like you, I'm worried the beta will go live and blow everything up. Now as for someone taking it as evidence I'm sure your right some will, but I don't think so, I mean if they wanted to do that I'm sure it wouldn't be just a texture here or there, I think it would be a little more massive LOL.Beth is like us right now, they are in debug mode, they have things they need to fix, and sometimes it breaks things on our end, and so we fix that hehehehe, and the cycle of modding life continues. @Steve40 Hmm, now I wonder where the textures always like that and Patch 2.(insert number) didn't care and could use them in that state, or did the beta do it. A few authors have looked at their files and on there end everything is ok.So something in the middle is scrambling things up at that rate. I also have included a quote of your post and what you have found in my list of textures topic
JuJooGuppy
Yeah. I DO think they may try to disable mod content for beta patches to get non-modded patch feedback, so they know if it works w/ vanilla game, but I doubt this is intentional, it is too random... hell, I don't know. I really don't believe it is the textures themselves due to some people using them fine and having other random textures causing issues, and thats ignoring the fact that all these textures were fine pre-beta. Unless there is something unique about each of these texture files that can randomly cause issues I guess.Leave it to better modders than myself to figure it out, just throwing my thoughts out there :) Don't plan to touch the beta patch myself, and wait to update to the new patch till its confirmed stable heh.
