Raider radio

I'm planning to make a radio station for all the raiders in the wasteland.

And I'm looking for some tracks and ideas.

 

The genres for the songs I'm looking for are rock, metal, punk etc.

They should be about things like atomic weapons, war, anti-government, oppression, drugs

 

Should I try to look for songs with fair use or should I ignore it for now.

I see quite a lot of mods use copyright material but i don't want to get sued.

Don't know how significant the modding comunity is to big corporations?

I want to include songs like Hurt from nine inch nails because it would fit the radio host but I don't know if I should?

Nexus (this place) does NOT like people infringing on music copyright, so this is the last place you should try to pull such a stunt.

 

There is a 'grey' area for certain types of material- like 'looks' inspired by characters from other video games. However, don't think this 'grey' area extends to current music- the people who inforce music copyright don't have a sense of humour.

 

Really old obscure music that hasn't sold for years probably has no-one asking questions about its copyright status, but EVERYONE knows if modern familiar music is protected or not.

 

And just to make it crystal clear, the 'big corporations' pay an awful lot of people to spend an awful lot of time trawing EVERY corner of the Internet to protect their music, films and TV shows. Mods here are required to have explcit or implicit permission for assets they use from other sources. The USA recognises fair-use and parody, but using a copyright song without permission is NEVER fair-use unless inadvertant background noise in something like a news rerport.

Are you going as far as portraying something crazy and nasty as the psychotic drug addict nature of Raiders to prefer this kind of music? Are you going to voice act as the host too?

 

I really enjoy DC radio, and I thought if you can do something like that, but with a much more twisted personality befitting Raiders as audience. The host himself or herself doesn't have to be all that crazy in reality (in game reality) because it does take a good amount of commitment and effort to run a decent radio station. He/she just have to speak with the mentality of those Raiders, even throwing out sponsored message from Chem dealers, weapon dealers, brothels, tips/tricks on the hottest ambush zone against civilians. These would make Raider radio stand out.

It portrays terrorists like a legit job with hotline support.. "terrorist supply... press 4". It really made my day.

 

As for the music, beside the free music, you can look up individual Soundcloud users. They may be interested in your mod because it exposes their music to more people.

Yes I'm planning to voice the host.(I'm not a VA so it wont be super high quality voice work)

Dont know how nasty I'm going to make it. I dont want to discourage people from using the mod.

 

He's going to make comments about the player, companions and events.

Don't copy Travis, you can't win. It's a very high quality recording and voice acting. Your best bet is to make it sound like raiders and low tech hardware to broadcast radio (with often static and noise).

My Suggestions:
1 - make the newscaster sound kinda unstable
2 - make some meta jokes about the raider AI
3 - have talk show interviews with hostages
4 - pick old songs as they work with the game's theme and you usually don't have to worry about copyright infringement unless the song is still pretty popular.

Fantastic idea, I love it. Unfortunately you have to be careful as mentioned. I am betting you can find some independent, smaller artist that would be fine with being used, and finding some bands that have a "raider" sound. Stuff that is harder sounding, but not necessarily death-metal. Idk. I just love the idea in general.
