SlikyMajik
Hello everyone. I started modding today and I have a doubt. Can I activate and desactivate mods while in game? If so how can I do that? Or do I have to quit game and restart it everytime I want to switch mods? I´m playing Fallout 4 by the way. Thanks for the help. Have a good day :D
tomomi1922
Yes, you have to quit game to do that. FO4 loads all mods at start and stays that way for the entire duration of the game. If you want to switch out mod, you have to quit the game, switch mods, and run the game again.

Oubliette
It's also generally not recommended to hot swap mods during a particular character's run through. So really it doesn't matter if you can switch mods while in game, you shouldn't be switching mods while using the same character either.

mm137
Eh, that's a broad generalization. Texture mods are 100% fine to switch at any time. Most simple FO4edit mods that make edits to a couple of game settings etc are fairly safe to switch if you use clean saves. Mods with scripts are where you run into trouble, but there are very few of those so far.
NikitaDarkstar
Lets just say that it's a really good idea to have backup saves when you're switching mods in and out just in case something does go wrong.
tomomi1922
Lets just say that it's a really good idea to have backup saves when you're switching mods in and out just in case something does go wrong. Totally concur this. In Sims 3 (such a life simulation game that has no ending), a great many players keep saving into the same saves. A lot of them do not care about modding or only select the mods base on visual preference, And then one day when their save game corrupted, they come crying to the modding community for support. The save could have contained about 6 months to a year + of work for some people. Little did they know, Sims 3 is extremely unstable as vanilla. So unstable that I completely refuse to play without mods (that ensures a 99% worryfree experience, versus a 50% vanilla experience). Mods (specially made by those with less experience) tend make the game even more unstable and corrupt the game much faster. "Ooooh I like to download some pretty hair ....", liked it, saved it ... save corrupt. The only answer is "Sorry there is nothing can be done", no matter how much pleading they put up: all the sweet bitter memories, hard work, the connection to reality .... gone! SAVE INTO a different saves OFTEN! That being said, I did notice FO4 does not load all texture initially, and I notice texture change on Fast Travel. I will do more testing to see if it will also load new mesh file. Edited January 21, 2016 by tomomi1922
