Xenius
Oblivion crashes when I load a save file, happens with both vanilla and custom races. Already had a topic on another forum so I'll just quote my comments from there: Just reinstalled Oblivion and a few mods.At first I thought my old save file didn't work anymore, thought it would be no problem because I could just import the face into a new save file. I can create a character and save it without any problems, but when I load the save the game crashes. This happens with all races including vanilla ones. The save created with Face Exchange has the same problem. Also I still have a backup of my old Oblivion folder, but I'd rather not use it because it's very old and there are pieces of land missing. Edit: Still had the ini file from Nehrim, which I uninstalled earlier today, was hoping that would be the problem. So I removed it, now the game just freezes without any error... I made a clean save with imported face from the old save. Also tried with a vanilla race (imperial), same problem. Edit: I renamed the Oblivion folder, put back the backup. Made a new character, when I press "esc" the game crashes.. Just deactivated all mods, made an imperial character, when I press "esc" to go to the menu and save the game it crashes. This was with the backup, I'll try with the new install too. As a bonus I also got a humming sound in windows (hanging music from Oblivion) which doesn't go away until I restart the computer. Tried with new install, crash after character creation.. no mods loaded, using imperial race. Never had problems before with reinstalling Oblivion. I renamed Oblivion folder in the My Games folder, started the game without any mods, created a character (imperial), game crashes. 2 days ago I reinstalled my Windows.I had beta nvidia graphics drivers, which was causing problems, flashing black screen, "driver stopped working blabla" error in windows. So I installed the latest WHQL drivers, no error yet, ran 3DMark 11 benchmark, no problems, max temp 54/65 C (cpu/gpu). Tried the backup again, used Oblivion mod manager to activate all the mods that were used with my old save, game crashes when loading.. I don't know what to do anymore :( Any help is appreciated. Let me know if more info is needed.
HeyYou
Try deleting the oblivion.ini, and renderer.txt in the Oblivion folder in my games. ( no mods running) try creating a character, (no imported face, no mods.....) and see if that will work. Didn't miss any drivers did you when you did the O/S reinstall? Xenius
Already tried that, actually I renamed the whole Oblivion folder in "My Games", so a new one was created. But I still had the same problem.I started the game without loading any mods, created an Imperial character, after the character creation the game will crash. I installed all needed drivers, graphics, sound and some other ones including motherboard through windows update, I reinstall windows quite often so I never really forget any drivers. 3DMark 11 runs fine, but I haven't installed any other games yet. I will do that to see if it's related to the game or not.
HeyYou
Hhhhmmm..... that seems really odd. Just out of idle curiosity, what O/S are you using, and where is oblivion installed to?
Xenius
Fallout 3 doesn't work either.. same error as the first quote, "Fallout 3 has stopped working", when starting a new game, no mods. I use Windows 7 Professional with service pack 1. Oblivion and Fallout 3 are installed to C:\Games\User account control is turned off and I have an administrator account. I have no idea what's going on, I didn't do anything different from other times I reinstalled everything.
HeyYou
Try going into properties for the exe files, running in XP compatibility mode, and turning off visual themes..... Got any background processes running? (anything that shows up in the system tray.)
Xenius
I restarted my computer and I set the compatibility of Fallout3.exe to windows xp like you said, set the windows theme to windows classic. I start the game with alternate start mod, works fine, loading save works fine too. Now I'm going to try Oblivion. Only application in system tray is "Xonar DS Audio Center" from my sound card. EDIT: Oblivion works fine too, I hope the xp compatibility is enough, don't really like windows classic theme.Strange that I never had to use the compatibility feature before. Maybe it's because I installed the service pack before installing any applications. Turned my favorite windows theme back on and still works fine. Thanks a lot for the help, have a kudos from me :) Still have crashes some times, then I get the error from the first post (Oblivion stopped working) and somehow get back into the game, then it freezes after while and it's normal for a few seconds then freezes, then normal, freeze etc FPS is not the problem.
