The Dark Lord's Armor

Well, yes, it's that time of the year again.

Time for the bi-annual Sith Stalker request! (We seem to get a lot of them, don't we? :P ) Well, I tried my hand at the request around 10 months ago. It didn't exactly go well, so nearly a year later, I'm going to give it another go.

Anyway, info from last thread.

The Dark Lord's armor is the upgraded version of the Sith Stalker suit that Starkiller is forced into should you choose the Dark Side ending of the game.

To be honest, I sort of feel this is one of the few pieces of Star Wars clothing/armor that doesn't clash enormously with the Fantasy setting, and seems to blend in rather well if you ask me. In fact, I believe it'd be perfect for an Assassin character, or even an evil character (or Anti-Hero) in general. I am aware and understanding that this will not be done quickly (should it be accepted), and am a patient man, who does indeed understand the phrase "It's done when it's done", so I wouldn't worry about being pestered by me if I were you.

Anyway, that's the idea the Dark Lord's Armor from the Ultimate Sith Edition of the game. The last thread, while the request was, unfortunately, left undone, plenty of forum goers and modders gave valuable suggestions and insight that, while the request fell flat, still helped it indeed.

Body looks like it wouldn't be to difficult, more trouble for a texturer than a modeller, pretty easy looking the body.

The belt, is once again, a texturers job, and it looks easy enough. All though a modeller could sort of model the buttons on, and it would like better.

Legs seem very similar to the torso, quite easy.

Boots, easy. Really easy. A black re-texture of leather boots could handle that.

The helmet. It looks quite difficult. Masks have never been easy(I think) and while the upper layer of the helmet could be edited from an iron helm for a good base, the mask would probably be quite tricky.

Anyway, what I'm basically saying is, unlike most armour requests here, it might be possible, I wish you good luck in finding a modder.

I also like this armor set. As previously mentioned, it looks very doable. I think the main concerns would be how the cloth "looks" because it cannot be rigged without problems in one animation or another. Example: If rig'd like the Capes and Cloaks mod, it would be like cardboard and look OK as long as the character is standing. Once running, riding or stalking occurs, it will look very strange and have major clipping issues. With that said, the only other viable option would be to rig it to the skeleton so it flows with the leg movements. This however is also a tricky proposition. If matched 100% to the leg movement, it will look odd. If matched to 50% of leg movement, it will look better when in motion but no matter how you design it, there will be an animation sequence that it will look strange for. The best thing is to pick which animation sequences you would like it to best match up for...and possibly make it so that it can be taken off (like a cape in the amulet or tail slot) for the times that it just looks wrong (like riding a horse or sitting on a chair.

The helmet would be a full helm so I don't think there would be any problem with it. If it were an open-face helm, there could be issues with odd-shaped heads, beast races, etc. but generally, you can do just about whatever you want if it is a full helm.

The claws on the fingers could be problematic due to clipping issues when clutching weapons or making a fist during hand-to-hand but as the OP said, this could be made optional. Or the claws could be reduced a bit in size and made to work with the ring slot so it could be taken off at any time.

The new model pieces needed to make this work are the helmet, armor pads, gauntlets, claws, belt, saber belt and cape. The rest is really up to the texture artist to make heavy use of bump mapping techniques in the normal map to make the cloth look like it has ridges, valleys and such.

As for the claws, just use Slofs! Hers are a manageble size, and looks sort of like that.

Even AlienSlof chimed in concerning her claws!

Quite right, it is a modders resource. It's there for folks to make use of. No extra permissions needed, though a credit is always nice.

So be sure to credit her if you use them!

So, what's my input on the armor?

Well, truth be told, Slawter and Hammonds really hit the nail on the head. So there isn't much more I could say. What I do think though, is that for the torso, one could retexture the Male Dark Seducer armor (and reduce the muscles a bit). Where as for the legs, one could tweak the Shrouded Armor to remove the padding and such on the legs, and then retexture the basic design. A steel helmet could be used as a base for the helmets and modify it accordingly from there. As Slawter said, the gloves and boots could easily be retextured (heck, from their designs, possibly just recolored) leather armor. Plus as Hammonds said The cloth (among other things) would need an entirely new mesh. Well, I think I did find a workaround.

You see the middle picture? Something like that, simply split each side of cloth into two pieces, and texture it to make it look tattered accordingly. Now, I'm not saying use that exact one in the image I provided (I won't have thievery in this), but if you can find something similar to that that is ok to use in other mods, then that might not hurt basewise.

Well anyway, let's get on with the pictures, because no decent (I hope!) request is done without reference pictures. :P

Let's give a big thanks to LHammonds for not only putting them in spoiler tags the first time around and sprucing them up a bit, but going out of his way to find extra images!

Let's hope that things work out this time. Of course, if the modder finds that something is pretty much impossible to do, they simply do not have to do it. I don't want to overload the modder. And as stated in LHammond's quoted post, the claws and helmet are indeed optional.
