Xuleika
I am brand new to the whole modding thing and decided I wanted to get in to modding fallout 4, it seemed easy enough. I signed up with the website, downloaded and installed the Nexus Mod Manager, edited the .ini files as instructed to on the mod installation wiki page, and downloaded the first mod I was interested in Vivid Fallout Landscapes and installed it. The game loaded up fine the first time, launched from the mod manager, but I had to restart it because I was having issues with my controller. After that every time I tried to launch the game, from steam or the mod manager, the launcher would come up but after pressing play the game would launch and just be a black screen, and according to the task manager the game is not responding. I tried restarting steam and the mod manager and my computer many times but it made no difference. So I removed Vivid landscapes, and the game was working again, so I decided to try a different mod, True Storms. I managed to get the game to launch properly once, by launching it from steam with the mod manager open, though I couldn't tell if the mod was working as there was no weather at that time. I then tried to install Vivid landscapes again, and the game wouldn't respond on launch again. I uninstalled Vivid Landscapes again and the game still wouldn't respond on launch. I uninstalled True Storms, so now I have no mods installed, and the game still won't respond on launch. Can anyone offer some help or advice on this issue? I'm close to giving up and uninstalling the mod manager and reverting the .ini files and just sticking with vanilla since nothing seems to be working for me even though I thought I followed the instructions right. robthebob11
This is now happening to me too after updating the Nexus Mod Manager today. Even disabling all plugins doesn't allow the game to launch. Verifying game files through Steam now to try and set things back to working order. Xuleika
Just wanting to play the game I decided to remove the mod manager from my computer and edit the .ini files back to the way they were. Surprise surprise it still wont respond on startup, even with no mods, no mod manager and the inis back to the way they were. Seems trying to mod has broken my game entirely, so can't even play vanilla now without possibly re downloading the whole game. Xuleika
After looking around a bit I managed to find a solution, which is to launch the game in windowed borderless mode. Seems this is a problem that can occur in fallout 4 even without mods. I guess that's fine but 1. I can never play in true fullscreen again?2. Why/how did the mod manager or mods set this problem off? I had never had a launch problem before trying to mod.3. Kinda don't want to try and mod again even with this solution as I don't know what else the mods might screw up. Anyway, I hope that solution might help you too rob. robthebob11
After verifying the game files, 1 file turned out to be broken and had to be replaced. I also removed the "Faster XP" mod (link below) since while troubleshooting I read that it no longer worked anyway. After the game was repaired I systematically went through and tested booting the game with each mod one at a time and I now have it working with all 23 active mods again. So either it was "Faster XP" or...I have no idea what the heck happened. Sorry if that doesn't help anyone else. http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/2389/?
