robmonty1987
Hey guys. I am brand new to the mod scene as far as FO4 goes, and I could use some help. I've worked on a few simple PC games in the past and I have a lot of modeling experience. I also have a lot of material from a game I was creating that never made it, and I'd like help plugging in some of the models into FO4, rather than them go to waste. Not all of the content is suitable for FO4, but I do have some unfinished maps/levels that I imagine could be ported into the wasteland. The one I am currently thinking about is an unfinished airport map I had been working on. Here is a peek I have some other content uploaded from that same game in development on my YouTube channel if you get bored. Assuming this is a possibility, I'd like any help I can get. I plan on using FO4 textures to blend with the wasteland, but the major issues I could use help with are the import process itself, and any grunts with a knack for texturing and UV mapping. I am hesitant to upload to the forums as a modder's resource mainly because I'd like to be fully involved in the project, so if anyone is interested, please send me a PM. Like I said, I'm new here, and I could use the help. I 3D model regularly, so if anyone needs some help for anything model related, I can almost certainly make/edit/texture anything in return, as long as it can import to my software. Thanks. tomomi1922
Very promising. Use this map with existing FO4 texture, it would be easy to make it look like an abandoned airport.
robmonty1987
Thank you, and yes that is the plan. I still have to add the destruction element and make it look nuked, but I feel like the in-game resources can take care of the majority of that. Here is another shorter video with a better view of the overall layout.
tomomi1922
At the current moment we can't even load this map and run around in it. But I suggest you get familiarized with mods like settlement changes, play with them, reverse engineer to see what they do. Get to know FO4Edit to at least understand how data is structured. In the far future I hope to make a DLC type mod that will add a small location outside of the map, too. So I guess we are going the same direction.
robmonty1987
As soon as someone who has knowledge to plug this in, I will resume work on the project. Actually, if anyone can rip me a nice broad set of texture files from the game (grass, dirt, rock, wood, brick, metal, etc.) I can start to texture the thing in good faith that it would be plugged 'one day'. Junnari
You can extract the existing textures from the game with B.A.E, although you can't preview the textures you are extracting with it.
robmonty1987
Useful, thank you. I guess someone has to dig through it. When I get the time I will start sifting.
DarthWayne
Currently you can only create the FO4 nifs with 3ds Max. But that would not help you much, because we can't create custom collision objects right now. The only way of adding collision is to copy/paste multiple vanilla collision objects and combine them. Anyway, if you need help with the process of creating the nif files, just sent me a pm.
robmonty1987
Thanks DarthWayne. I guess there is no point in trying to use that method for a collision mesh. We definitely need the ability to do custom ones before I plug this.
tomomi1922
Just get your mesh and texture ready. As soon as GECK comes out you can start creating new maps and adding all these in to create at least an accessible new area with proper collision map (so at least we can run around, use the stair, and not fall through the map somewhere). This along takes a lot of work.Afterward, more content can be added on top. People can come to you to ask to collaborate too.
