Power armor mounted weapons

Tying it in to the targeting reticle somehow? I don't really know how it would work but would love to see it made

Edit: maybe making it an invisible hand held weapon that puts the model on the power armor and only equipable while in power armor. Another thought would be to use the right mouse(or console equivalent) to activate it...like using a scope but not - activates mounted weapon targeting.

2nd Edit: hmm - since power armor already has customization slots - making one that adds the mounted weapon(s) so they always appear on the power armor set that was modified might be doable, and then when you get in the armor it auto equips the invisible weapon so you can fire it? Maybe add custom slots that give left shoulder/right shoulder (torso mods), left arm/right arm (arm mods), both shoulders, and/or both arms as options?

Just kicking around ideas on how to make it functional...

another thought - have a menu or power armor HUD element that allows you to toggle which weapons you want to fire at once (example if you have two shoulder mounted weapons and two arm mounted weapons, have the ability to fire only the shoulders, only the arms, or a combination of any - just an on/off toggle, nothing too fancy...)

one way of dealing with hardmounted vs hand held weapons, to give a sense of difference. Granted this would require quite a bit of modding expertise to pull off.

-Hardmounted ranged weapons are a separate category of weapons from normal handheld versions (grip and stock replaced by some mounting fixing to attach to PA arms or torso)

-They may only be used when installed on a PA hardpoint.

-Your PA arms can be modified to be given 1 hardpoint each, your torso can be modded to add in a left and right hardpoint

-Once a weapon is installed, you can only switch it out at a PA station

-Weapons are considered either light or heavy. (a hardmounted laser pistol is light, a hardmounted gattling laser is heavy)

-Installing a heavy weapon in either arm precludes the use of hand held weapons

-Arm mounted Light weapons still allow the use of hand held weapons, but both hand and hard mounted weapons cannot be used at the same time.

-Torso mounted weapons reduce cargo capacity.

-Heavy weapons reduce agility and speed significantly, light weapons, slightly.

-If a location is reduced to 0 durability, the weapon mounted there is disabled until the location is repaired.

Potential advantages of hardmounted ranged weapons

-Greater accuracy, less recoil, more range

-All hard mounted weapons ready at to be fired via hotkeys without having to switch to them

-No reloading necessary

Hard mounted melee weapons

-May only be mounted in the arms, and are not compatible with ranged weapon hardpoints

-hard mounted melee weapons come in two types, light and heavy (a wrist mounted knife blade is light, a powerfist is heavy)

-Otherwise follow the same rules as ranged weapons

Advantages

Hit considerably harder

I like where you're going with this Flyingdebris - but I was also considering things like shoulder mounted missile/nuke launchers, Gauss cannons, and so on.

Energy weapons could get "ammo" from the fusion core in the PA (maybe have a requirement for a secondary fusion core for these weapon types?) but others like the Gauss or missile launcher or nuke launcher would require ammo - maybe an attachable ammo drum or belt?

One obvious advantage not mentioned is the ability to cause way more damage by firing multiple weapons at once...

Love the idea for the hard point melee weapons too

Edit: giggled at the thought of shoulder mounted Broadsiders...

@Coneyislandking not a bad idea, but would prefer the player control what gets shot at. Aggroing things you'd rather not be dealing with during a fight is my preferred option. Like accidently popping off at a nearby deathclaw while already engaged with a bunch of raiders could potentially turn the tide of the battle against you pretty quick :)

I started a new topic though for craftable/placeable turrets based on your thoughts :)

didn't mean to imply that ammo would be unlimited. just that that you wouldn't need to manually reload, just like that one legendary weapon mod where the mag size is whatever your total ammo is.

that might be a bit broken, but if anyone. manages to add proper weight to ammo, it might not be
