odinwynd
Since I first pre-ordered the game, I have been pondering one thought. If I can access the game's installed files, can I somehow modify the game? It seems straight forward enough, and on the Xbox Original, you can inject PC mods into the cache for Morrowind. Alas, times have changed. Though there are ways, one could get the drive to mount on a PC even make changes to files, it does not mean the game will run, let alone the possibility it may brick the system through some security measure, especially if strict checksums are being validated against a signed certificate. Enter modding, through a restricted and developer controlled channel, with a yet to be released deployment system. I begin to ponder, how will the mod be packaged, will the mods be signed with a certificate, is there a possible loophole? Could a modder deploy a mod to a console from GECK for their own "Testing"? I know, I have no answers, and am unwilling to possibly brick my console. But, this is a train of thought, as a modding community in general, we should look into, or at least, gather information in non-damaging ways. When the official mod system comes out, find a way to grab whatever they are using to install a mod, do it from a PC, rip the package apart, see what makes it tick. Then, if it can be reproduced, and exploited safely, look into ways we might be able to host redirect their mod repo to a private repo. I am excited the console powers that be are finally opening up to the modding community, however, their imposition of control, goes agains the core desire to mod, unrestricted expression of creativity, and infinate opportunities to experience the works, creations, parody, and satire of contributors. If I want to put Thomas the Train or some boobs in my game on console, by all means, let me have my stupid fun and a few laughs. If I want to be dumb, put it on twitch, youtube, and live services, then do something about it for violating terms or laws, just because they license a technology, does not make them liable, and they can quit pretending they are, or they would not allow pc mods to begin with, and any crime that a criminal used windows to comit, Microsoft would be liable for. So, what is my point? If we can use the system they create, and exploit it for unofficial modding, lets do it!This is not a multiplayer game, so we are not taking away from anyone else's enjoyment, we are not out there to make money, at least most of us, and a majority of us enjoy our builds at home, we are not all streaming, or making videos. So what if I want to put a hello kitty tattoo on my avatars boobs, it is not a harm to anyone, let me do it, have a laugh, then find some other silly thing to do, or create. And if they are going to prevent that, then it is up to us, as a community, to find our own work around. I understand, this is a PC modding site, so many won't really care, or say, go buy the game for PC. Well, I game on PC too, I just want to access, on my console, within the technological software limitations, whatever I can from the PC. Before this completely turns into a rant, I will end this post simply saying, Free The Console
LadyMilla
Console modding is not supported here. If and when Bethesda decides to implement support for modding Fallout 4 on consoles, discussion of console modding will be permitted in that context.Until then, it is not allowed here.
