How do i move NMM to another drive?

So i installed NMM on the same drive as FO4, that was a bit of a mistake because now i got like 500 mods downloaded, 330 installed and the thing is taking up 20+GB on my SSD which has now 1GB left.

I want to move NMM or at least the folders with all the downloaded files to another drive... how do i do this without messing stuff up?

Should be possible NMM has multiple HD support, copy the entire NMM folder to another drive open NMM and reset the filepaths.

Only thing to take into account is that you should not move the virtual install folder to another slower drive. This effects ingame performance. SSD to SSD should be fine but SSD to HD might cause loading times and ingame stuttering.

Keep in mind though, that NMM sometimes has issues installing files, when the Virtual Mod Folder is on another harddrive than the Fallout installation. You might have to check manually for missing files like textures and meshes after installing a mod via NMM in that kind of setup.

NMM isn't all that good at handling multiple drives. I have used, and still actually use, Mod Organizer. After searching for a really good mod manager, and watching a few people talk about it on youtube, I found this wonderful tool. The Mod Organizer that handles Fallout 4 is in alpha stage right now. There is a little problem with it, but not a major one. You just have to move one file out of the way. It does have a few snags, and even problems, but I have come to work around them. The link provided does not only have Mod Organizer 2, but also an issues section. I would recommend reading some of those before you use it. Also, for older versions of Mod Organizer, I recommend watching 3 people who have extensive, and exhaustive, knowledge of Mod Organizer. They are Dirty Weasel Media (or Cal, he is an awesome guy, and knows his stuff,) Gopher, and Gamer Poets. Mod Organizer 2 alpha 3 does have in it's settings where you would like to put everything. You can have your downloads go to one drive, your profiles on another drive, your webcaches on another drive, and your mods with your game. I would recommend using most of the settings that come with it, except the mods. That can be a separate folder in your game path. As a matter of fact, I recommend putting Mod Organizer 2 within your game folder, and making sure the mods folder is in there. As to the rest of the folders, you can put where you want to. To save space, and not download, again, every one of your mods, moving them to where you want, then using the paths in Mod Organizer to designate it, and go from there. That all may help with your space issue.

  • 1 year later...

I realize this is a bit old but I am in a similar situation. I have installed mod manager and my modded games on one disk. (games installed via steam )

i have a new ssd drive and want to move mod manager + games to the new drive.

my understanding ( from the above ) i can move the mod manager folders to the new drive, change the folder locations within MM.

with steam i can tell it to move the install directory to another library.

but i'm not sure how the virtual folder stuff with mm works and how it will interact with steam when the path to the game changes ?

i know this question is more mm than FO4 but support for mm no longer exists so i'm not sure where to go with this question.

if anyone has experience with doing this i'd really like to hear about it.

thanks for your time.
