SKSE install question, simple yes or no one

I have seen tons of tutorials for installing SKSE and they involve moving files and such. I used clicked on the two exe files in Data and told them to install. I of course now have a short cut that launches the game and I believe I saw an SKSE file in download manager. Given that many of the tutorials are years old and the possibility that the programs get updated.

Is My SKSE not currently working? Do I need to go back and follow all the steps in the tutorials?

Thanks for help, I am still trying to figure out how to access all the mods. I hope to actually have a chance to look at it today and try for the first time.

That's not a simple yes or no question. In fact it sounds more complex than it needs to be. Hope your skse install has not turned into a hairball.

When you install it in the right place, you'll have a "skse_loader.exe" in Skyrim, the same folder as TESV.EXE, and an SKSE folder in Skyrim\DATA\. Then you execute skse_loader.exe to start the game. The skse wrapper executes TESV.EXE, so it needs to be in the same folder. The skse files should be extracted to Skyrim (not data).

What I did was place the entire file into my Skyrim under the steam, this caused the Data files to merge. Then I use the exe files in the data to install. I do have a SKSE icon on my desktop and the game will launch from this with no problems. I assumed it was working, but the tutorials suggested that the program was a little more complicated to install. So my concern was I was not actually launching under the SKSE, but a renamed version of the basic exe command.

Thank you for the help. Now I just have to figure out how to actually use the mods that are situational, such as body presets etc.. I have never seen a game that has such a diversity of mods. Due to the quality of the graphics etc, I place it above SIMS which would be #2

Thanks to everyone, I discovered that for one thing I was using mod manager and the tutorial was for mod organizer. That explains why I was having issues. I got it installed and running. The tutorial I saw recommended mod organizer over mod manager. I noted that nexus has lots of direct links for Mod manager, do those links work for mod organizer? If I add mod organizer do I need to reinstall everything?

Thanks again, I just needed to come back fresh and look at it again.

Oh if anyone can recommend a good place to learn how to use some of the mod benefits. Such as how to use a preset body etc. Please feel free to direct me. I am under the impression that these have to be accessed via the CBbce. Just googled some videos and I am now going to see if I can figure it out. I always make everything hard.

Oh well most of the mods kick in when I reload a saved game?

Since you're planning to try out mods, I highly recommend go ahead and get Mod Organizer and spend some time to set it up now. Use the STEP guide . MO makes mods more modular, so you unplug them even if the author doesn't provide a way to uninstall. Saves a lot of time troubleshooting and managing lots of mods.

Also get LOOT, a utility to check your load order and mod health.

Mod Organizer does let you download with the "download with manager" links across nexus. One point if you're using these links: you should still go to the files tab of each mod to see optional files you might want.

You can use CBBE or UUNP bodyslide. UUNP has more polygons.

And yes, a few mods require new games, but most mods will work ok, or even perfectly, on a previous game.
