VaultPi
you've come bac from he grave, and you bring death just about everywhere, now you have some guy in black, with a skull face, and ravens following you around. (bonus shout out points if his dialog options are in all caps), Would this mean that we would have to make a scyth weapon mesh and animation for death, or just give him some nice post apocalypse gun with a nasty looking blade on the end of it, like Son's of Anarchy? Vindekarr
You rang? :) Sounds fine, but making a Scythe wouldnt be too dificult at all. You could easily use the "bones" of an existing hammer/baseball bat, and the animation of one of the afforementioned weapons aswell. Another possibility would be long claws attached to the Reaper's fingerbones a la WarHammer's equivalent, the NightBringer, who has no scythe and slays using fingers and thought. The skull would take some work, you could use the existing ES\FO engine's skull but I dont think that really conveys the serious, morbid nature of the embodiment of death properly, and you will likely want to make your own. This also shouldnt be too hard, just have someone elongate the cheekbones, extend the jaw, and add glow to the eyes, which wouldnt take much effort. The real dificulty would be the robes-I can tell you now, good robes are the mother of all headaches to animate properly in a realistic manner, proper, tattered, fluttery, almost feather-like Death robes will prove simple enough to mesh, but I'd recomend some serious modding artillery be called in for the txtures, which I'll warn now, WILL. HURT. TO. MAKE. Basic robes, vaguely like a western Knight's ritual robe, or a tabard/toga, are fairly simple to make, but dont go for simple, go for epic, it'll take time, but a Reaper set really is missing, I for one like donning the Black in my usual Oblivion. As for symbology, I think a gun would be good for practical purposes, but you may want to rather blend it into the scythe somehow. Looking at some recent weapons, I think a Martini-Henry,. M-1 Garand, or other powerful rifle would fit pretty easily down the shaft of a scythe, another option is claws using either the hand to hand or Deathclaw Gauntlet animations, or the classic, a scythe, which could be quickly and easily built either from existing resources used under licence, or scratchbuilt, neither would present much dificulty.
