SergeantGrrock
So, I get a pop up notice from Nexus Mod Manager that the above mentioned line (located under [Archives] in my Fallout4.ini file) is causing long load times (which I DID experience). Also that I should delete anything after the "=" sign. OK, did that and then in NMM disabled and re-enabled my mods. Now load times are much better and all 10 installed mods are still working fine. So my questions are... 1) If this is the case, why do all these and many other mods say to add "\textures" "\meshes" "\sound" OR whatever to the line in question? 2) Do/Can some of the mods automatically make the changes in that file if you install with NMM? Sorry if this is common knowledge but I can't find a clear answer.
wax2k
Because it worked like that in previous games. And the information about the archive invalidation setting was spread later on so not everyone knew of it or even knows of it today. And for example a mod like Fallout 4 Configuration Tool can make changes to your inis.
SergeantGrrock
Ok. So FO3 and Skyrim probably needed those folder names or whatever in the text (I couldn't remember) but FO4 doesn't. So we do need to make sure that nothing is added after "=" in that doc for FO4. Thank you for the quick answer!!
wax2k
Only when having archive invalidation activated. It's either [Archive] bInvalidateOlderFiles=1 sResourceDataDirsFinal= or [Archive] sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\, TEXTURES\, MUSIC\, SOUND\, INTERFACE\, MESHES\, PROGRAMS\, MATERIALS\, LODSETTINGS\, VIS\, MISC\, SCRIPTS\, SHADERSFX\ the latter being the older and inferior one due to the loading times. SergeantGrrock
Ok. Thanks for clearing that up. But if there would never be any reason to use the older one, why are the mod authors using it and making it confusing? I'm not trying to be a dick, I just want to understand. I'm guessing your answer to this will be what you first replied in this thread but then why don't mod authors just fix/update their description page?? So most of them don't know the better way either??
SirTwist
The original game, in order to mod it, you needed to add the sResourceDataDirsFile line in your ini files to have the mods work. The patches have made this an unnecessary step by including the binvalidateolderfiles line, which supersedes the sresource line. The mods that have you modify the Resource line are older mods, they are still viable, just that they are outdated in the description. I hope this helps. SergeantGrrock
Totally get it now. Can be pretty confusing to the folks new to mods. Thanks to both of you! Now I gotta go see if the new patch ruined my game. :ermm:
SirTwist
I doubt it has in major ways. Some minor ones, maybe. I had a problem with it, couldn't break down the excess clothing I had. Stuff like the long johns and raider leathers. However, the folks at Project Commonwealth, among other things, and thanks to their mod, has fixed this for me. zeltacore
How come some mods still require to leave sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\, TEXTURES\, MUSIC\, SOUND\, INTERFACE\, MESHES\, PROGRAMS\, MATERIALS\, LODSETTINGS\, VIS\, MISC\, SCRIPTS\, SHADERSFX\ While other mods states its needs to be blank, if I leave it blank will the mods that requires the extra tags stop working? SirTwist
Zeltacore, the reason some mods say to have that long line of stuff is because it is either an older mod, or that you may not have changed the file to bInvalidateOlderFiles=1. That line of code, somewhere in the ini file will take the place of the stuff after the sResouceDataDirsFinal= line.
