How can we identify the reason for a crash without trying to notify Bethesda. Who really doesn't care anyway! And without "checking for a solution online" which doesn't work either!?

There is no doubt my comp.can handle the game so I would like to try and find out what is going wrong so I can know what to do to solve the problem. But I'm not sure how to determine the reason for the app. shutting down. :wallbash:

It does not CTD it just stops and shows the "windows can check online for a solution" window. Ya as if! I wish it could be that simple

usually if you get that message, it crashed.

we need a little more information than "it crashed, please help". what were you doing when it crashed? is it a random occurence, or does it happen doing a specific thing? your drivers up to date? are you patched up to 1.7? are you running any mods? and if so, post your load order, and we might be able to help.

Thank you for your reply but what I would really like to know is how to identify the cause of the the crash. Somthing other than a series of numbers like what's in the "event log" Those numbers are of no use. Is there a log or like a crash dump file in some folder somewhere on my computer that explains what actually happened. Then I'm certain I can find a solution myself. I'm just not sure where to look for the reason.

I agree 100%. I can trouble shoot the mod issue easily enough. Could you please explain the seat-to-keboard thing. I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

Thanx again for your input quicksilverva!

I think he means "human error". In other words, he means that some ctd's are, well, the cause of the person operating the keyboard.

As for the ctd's themselves, well, lets say Fallout 3 is not exactly the most stable of games.

Fortunately there are a lot of modders out there that have made "patches" which generally help make the game run more stable.

Example: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15962

Edit: other then that, I'll have to agree with quicksilverva's first reply that we should really get some more info about what you were doing etc...

I can answer your question really easy. 1. No the numbers the OS logs are of no use. But there is a crash dump location. It's location in this game is internal. You can not access it unless you have the correct tools to see them. Them meaning the place where the data gets dumped. That place is the collision markers in side the game. Built in trash cans sort of. They can only be seen If you use My file as a reference against all coded mods you use. My file is last in the load order. Any files that have vertex conflicts with my file's coding will be bright red at the top of fo3editor. World spaces and statics locations are the items that function as crash dump "sters Lol any how, thats the way to see what's going on. I hope you understand this. This file is for a normal game Un modified. (Fallout 3 Invisible wall bugs remover

ccmechanic2 i'm looking forward to trying this out. One question first! If I've changed the INI file will it alter this tools effectivness?

For anyone following this thread. I have attached a "dxdiag" and my modlist load order text. FYI

The support here is great. With the INI changes the game looks fantastic  What the mods list does not show is that I have used Danman's texture replacers"very nice looking" however I still had a crash after about an hour of game play.

No, in no way will anything "( but alteration or improper loading of the file)" will effect it's function. Ini tweaks effect game function and engine function also but it wont have any baring on my code. The only thing found that changes this fact is incorrect use of other tools , like fomm or fo3 edit mastering. I have seen attempt's to change or tamper with my code result in crashes, they admitted useing various tools so nothing was hidden. I know and realize there are those that will try. This is understood. I have given all information in regards of use of this code so there can be no mistakes. The credits shows the good folks whom have done the testing. And really hammered it good to try and trip it up. No good. it rocks, and it does what I said it does. Heh! Both ways too! installed and done correctly it is flawless in function. Installed and messed with it will crash you game. So there you have it.http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/biggrin.gif
