MisterMicro
Ok, so let me start off by explaining the problem. I have modded Oblivion in the past, i cleaned my files out by removing the Oblivion folder from MyDocuments and completely uninstalling all mods. Fresh Re-install of Oblivion. I cleaned out all my masters and added OBSE, ENBOOST, and Alternate Start like i always do in Bethesda games so that i can just start up and load into the game and make sure everything is working properly after installing X amount of mods. Everything launched and worked fine. Got into Tamriel Just fine. so quit the game and added a few mods. These mods consist of Better Cities, Unique Landscape (with its Better Cities Patch) and UCO along with Blockhead because its mandatory for UCO.everything seemed to install fine, no errors or anything. i followed all install readmes to the T. all omods activated successfully i checked for conflicts and there were none. I then try launching Oblivion and i get stuck on the Oblivion launcher. It starts up plays the little launcher music (where you can access the data files), i press PLAY. and it goes back to steam saying "Launching Elder Scrolls Oblivion" and the Launcher re-opens, and I'm stuck in this loop. I have looked everywhere I have tried many solutions such as. Changing the .ini files to bwaterreflection=0bmusicenable=0bsoundenable=0 both all at the same time and separately I have uninstalled/reinstalled 3 times desperately hoping it would workI have restarted SteamI have restarted my PCI have tried running as Administrator for both Oblivion.exe and OblivionLauncher.exeI have changed my launcher options and tried running the launcher.exeI have scoured my Data folder for any trace of previous mods to no avail. I am desperate, please help me SpecsIntel Core i7-5820K 3.3GHz 6-Core ProcessorASRock X99 Extreme4 ATX LGA2011-3A-Data XPG Z1 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 MemorySapphire Radeon R9 390X 8GB Tri-X Video Card
Surilindur
I have not run into that myself, but if you do not mind me guessing, have you tried launching the game from within Steam? For example by right-clicking the Steam icon in the notification area and starting Oblivion from there? MisterMicro
Yes, i have tried that. sadly i cannot seem to find any fix that solves m issue. I have been on a hunt for a couple days now but i have the same outcome. Launcher starts i can do whatever i want on it, but as soon as i hit play it just closes it and reloads oblivion and the launcher well.. re-launches
TheMastersSon
What happens if you go into your Oblivion\Data folder manually and double-click on Oblivion.exe? IMO it sounds like a shortcut problem. If you didn't delete your existing desktop shortcuts (including Steam's shortcut(s) for Oblivion) before you reinstalled, try that also. MisterMicro
Nothing is different. I have tried launching through the Executable. It's quite irritating. It launches the Oblivion launcher where i can change the video options and activate/deactivate data files, as soon as i hit play, Boom, resets everything. Re-launches it, it makes no sense
TheMastersSon
Hmm. What happens if you rename your existing oblivion.ini file completely (instead of just editing it)?
MisterMicro
I found out the problem months later. Thank you for the help, but that was not the solution. I was checking through my Oblivion folder in the steam directory and Oblivion.exe was running as Administrator; i changed it to run normally and for some odd reason THAT fixed it! TheMastersSon
Thanks for the update. First time I've heard of 'run as administrator' causing a problem instead of fixing one. It might be worth looking at the group policy on the computer for admin and other restrictions (start/run/gpedit.msc on Win 7/8, don't know about Win10). One other possible culprit is if you've been messing with file or folder ownership and/or ownership rights manually.
