Burnout122812
Now it says I have 17 people in my settlement. But when I ring the bell to gather them I count 14. I looked around the settlement and there is no one missing. There are no travelers or provisioners. Now if I count Codsworth, Dogmeat and Junkyard Dog that would make 17. My question is does Codsworth or even dogs count towards settler numbers? Am I missing 3 settlers? Edited February 4, 2016 by AtirusGaming
AeonsLegend
Settlement numbers are broken. My pipboy gives different info than the workshop, settlers complain about beds when they have twice as many available and settlements say they have 11 settlers, when I arrive there's 9 listed in the workshop even though there are 10 settlers. Companions (including Codsworth and dogmeat) count towards settler numbers.
Jasemyne
Only the settler information in the pipboy is broken, the one in workbench mode is not. Moreover, not assigned settlers turn into scavengers (that's what Fallout 4 is all about) with a range that goes beyond the green settlement area. These folks simply don't 'hear' the tolling of the bell that forces settlers to gather together immediately for a nose count or something. They are:4 settlersDogmeatCaitCurieStrongCodsworthMaccready That's not a hard list to keep track of. I don't need the bell to know that these people are part of this settlement. This happened when I sent the last person (Strong) to the settlement. Before I sent him, the number of the settlement was 9 for a long time. When he arrived it was still 9 and it still is after a few days. It's broken. Edited February 4, 2016 by AeonsLegend
kevkiev
Settlement management would be a lot more fun if you could rely on the pip-boy menu when you're not at a particular settlement . So far, as long as I'm in the Settlement, the numbers seem ok Although it seems that sometimes they indeed wander off. (Btw, @AeonsLegend: Dogmeat doesn't count as a settler) I have only a couple settlements with the recruitment beacon running, and if I need a settler somewhere else I'll just reassign them from one of those places. But I can't rely on the pip boy to tell me if new settlers have arrived. About half the time when it appears they have, when I get to the settlement it turns out to be a false alarm. . Like most people, I'll wager, I've got to the point where I just ignore the other numbers like beds, water, food etc. 'cuz they're wrong so much of the time. Certainly an annoyance though. On a semi-related note, I was at Nordhagen Beach (where I'd built a fairly large structure) and couldn't find 2 of my vendors and 1 of the original settlers. When I noticed a Pack Brahmin keep trying to walk through the structure's concrete foundation, on a hunch I turned off collision and ended up finding the 3 missing NPCs along with a Provisioner under the floor in the middle of a concrete foundation. (I'm not running any mods that alter the foundation.) Oh, another thing I've found is that sometimes if one of the settlers is about to give you a minute man mission, he/she will wander off and just stand somewhere. I was at Outpost Zimonja and everyone was whining about the trouble they were in, and I noticed one settler was missing. Finally found him standing stationary just over the hill behind the outpost and, when I talked to him, he gave me one of those (increasingly tedious) save us froml the raiders/greenskins/whatever missions. Even if Dogmeat didn't count, it still doesn't explain why it was listed as 9 before I sent Strong to the settlement. It should have been listed as 8. It should have been listed as 8. Point taken. Considering the seemingly major role that settlement management plays in this game, it's quite disappointing that it was released broken and remains so. I have a feeling it'll be addressed in an upcoming patch but, considering the trouble I had with texture mods with the latest patch, I'm kinda cringing in anticipation.
