gbpacker
So I really screwed up. Oblivion worked fine when I got it years ago, but I'd like to play again and can't because of some major issues. The font is unreadable due to me not understanding how to install a custom font. For some reason, it only launches without just freezing my whole computer about 2/3 of the time. I can't exit the game without another freeze, when I want to quit. So I figured the best idea was to start over, uninstall/reinstall. I did this, but all the mods and changes I made to the Data file are still there. How do I get rid of these changes to start over clean, as if I had just bought the game? Thanks for any help! eric31415
It sounds like you didn't delete your Oblivion file after uninstalling.Check out bben's guide on this site or Tes4Positive, both are solid guides to uninstalling cleanly and reinstalling.Make sure you (after uninstalling) defrag your hard drive and clean your registry befors reinstalling.Concerning CTD on exit, check out Fast Exit. bben46
First get the vanilla (unmodded) game working, along with the latest patch, Shivering Isles (if you use it) OBSE, OBMM, any other utility programs such as Wrye Bash that you plan to use plus any DLCs. then make a full back up of your data folder. Create a new folder somewhere outside of the Oblivion folder, give it a name you will remember (I use Original-Oblivion) and copy the data folder into it (\Original-Oblivion\data) That will be your back up so you don't have to reinstall again. - Whenever you feel the urge to reinstall, rename the data folder and COPY this one into it. then install any mods you want. You can also make separate backups with known working mods at any time to use for back ups. Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexushttp://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240 It allows you to preserve any saves and mods, or remove them completely - your choice.
