StanIsTheLaw
Hi, wondering if there is a way to restart a quest. I stumbled on Crowhaven and I came to the locked door you cannot pick. I thought it was one of those locations where you have to go one way and the unlock handle was on the other side, was in a hurry, so unlocked through console. IIRC there was nothing inside except some msc items and 2 books. Without thinking, picked them up. Now I cannot put one of the books down. Turns out they are for the Grey Prince Quest, the vampire/orc cross in the arena. Now when I talk to him, he does not start the quest for me, even though the green map marker is right on him. Is there a way to restart this quest please? Thanks in advance.
Telyn
Tricky one. If your last save is not too long ago, you might want to go back to the earlier save and do it correctly. If not, you can try to use setstages in the console to fix it, but remember you cannot undo setstages, and there is an issue that there is an NPC who should be dead when you turn in the quest item who will not be dead. You could just skip this quest, but...not wanting to give you a spoiler, it will make something in the arena harder later. WARNING, complete spoiler here: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Origin_of_the_Gray_PrinceSetstage info is there. If you decide to force the setstages, do them one at a time, in order. You are less likely to have problems. Make an extra save beforehand, just in case.
StanIsTheLaw
There is a direct contradiction between info on different pages in UESP. setstage"Quest stages can be found on each individual quest page. First, select the quest you want to change in your journal. Use the SQT command to see the quest id, then use the getstage command to see the stage. Usually you add or subtract 10 to change the stage, but there are exceptions." Grey Prince "On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage MS52 stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages." I tried downloading the latest Oblivion patch and it crashes every time I try to run it:-( At least the game still starts, small blessing I suppose. Interestingly, according to the readme I should be able to go back to the arena and the quest will continue, I can get the vampire journal by sneaking without killing Lord L. But When I go to Agronak, the journal is not removed nor do I get my bonus:-(
Telyn
I think what the wiki means when it says usually you add or subtract 10 to change the stage is badly phrased but should read something like "usually the stages are 10 apart numerically." You really cannot go back to an earlier stage. Actually, sneaking turns out to be fine, hence you don't actually have to kill Lord L. I think you are glitched here. In many cases, if you find a quest item before you start the quest, the game will adjust for that, the NPC will give you the quest, and you can just hand it in immediately. For some reason that is not working and he isn't talking to you or giving you the quest, so I think you will have to either revert, or force a setstage. I am not big on console cheats, but I did have to force a setstage on two occasions so far when the game didn't recognize a stage, and nothing terrible happened. What you want to do is set the stage so that Agronak has talked to you. In other words, make an extra save, try setting it to 10. If it gives you the key and the journal entry, everything should be fine I think. It's a shame, though, because it's a nice quest, and well acted. As for the patch, what is the version number of your Oblivion game? You may already have the latest official patch, in which case you would only need the Unofficial Oblivion Patch and any Unofficial Oblivion Mod Patches that apply to you (DLCs you own only). StanIsTheLaw
I decided to start a new game with alternative beginnings and OOO. The first time I have started with OOO. I tried the console trick and it did not work, seems to be very hit and miss/buggy. Thanks for your help.
