OOO, different and interesting, but out of whack?

Recommended Posts

I am playing my first OOO from the start. What I have noticed and maybe it is not typical, is that OOO un balances the main quest, and maybe many vanilla quests.

What I have found is that in OOO, you meet more powerful enemies earlier, which means you get access to better weapons and armour earlier. So when I go back to a main quest, I am finding it much easier than in the vanilla game. Compounding this is the slower level development, I am using OOO Level Normal, but it is much slower than vanilla level development, so when I go to the main quest I have a huge advantage over the vanilla game.

When I got to lake Arrius caverns, I just killed everyone I met except for the group at the altar. At the last quest, at the Imperial Temple, I simply ran past the bad guys, stopping to conjure a friendly helper, while waiting for Martin. In Miscarcand I just waltzed up to the Lich and smashed him with my Daedric long sword, protected by 3 enchanted daedric armours, several rings and amulets and the Chorrol shield. That was when I was level 10. At level 6 I was just running through caves with goblins, smashing them as fast as I could.

It was harder in the vanilla game. I am playing with the difficulty slider at half way. Thinking I should add a couple of difficulty clicks each time I advance a level?

Thoughts?

Hmm, this doesn't sound right to me. OOO is supposed to make the game harder, not easier. I use OOO myself, but as part of FCOM, and I have difficulty on the lowest setting. Maybe post your load order?

Clarification, I am not saying OOO stuff is easier, but that the main quest and some vanilla quests are easier because they are set to my level, which is low because OOO slows your level progress down, but I have better weapons and armour/amulets/rings from fighting harder OOO oponents.

There are some places that are adjusted by OOO that I still have not conquered completely, the places with enemies wearing braided armour are hugely tough. And the amazon lair near the Imperial city was suicide until I recruited a couple of companions and could at least conjur a scamp, even then I was killed many times before cleaning the cave out. But the rewards were like jumping a couple of levels.

Okay, yeah, that sounds about right. Well, if you're looking for more of a challenge, and you don't have too much time invested in your current character already, I'd suggest trying FCOM. There's an excellent post on the main forums about how to install it here.
