My Mods arn't taking effect

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been answered already, but I searched for quite a while and couldn't find a topic about it.

Today I've been diddling around with some modding. I just want to make some custom enchanted staves. Instead of making a new one, I've edited preexisting staffs since I couldn't figure out how to tell it which model to use, etc for a newly created one. But that's not the question.

Basically, my created mods are not taking effect. I save it, select it in the data files when I load oblivion, go in, and nothing changes. I tried editing a staff I already had, changing one I didnt and putting it down, etc. It's not because I'm in the same room as where I put it, because I tried several places (on the ground outside, inside, in a container, etc). I'm running vista, but I don't think that's the problem because I've used other mods created by other people. The CS was putting my .esp's in the "virtual store" thing, but I moved those over to the real folder, and I don't think it was a problem anyways because oblivion could see them in the first place.

Any ideas? Thanks guys.

Even if oblivion is finding the datafiles in that esp load checklist, its probably best to put them in the designated folder, eg. the one it prompts you to save in.

Yes, as I said, I've done both of those (put it in the game and the .esp in the data folder). I tried it with the .esp's in the virtual store data folder (where vista put them) and in the actual data folder.

Do they show up in plugins.txt?

For that matter, are they still activated after quitting the game?

Yes to both. I had to search around a bit for plugins.txt (it was under Users -> App data -> Oblivion, I don't know if this is funky or not because of Vista. But this area seems analogous to the app data user folder in XP).

Okay, at this point I'm fairly sure it's a vista issue. I tried editing a preexisting mod I had (the auto flora harvest) and it stopped working. It moved the .esp into the virtual store and changed the permissions on it. I fixed the permissions, put it back in the regular folder... and it still doesn't work.

Did you put the item that you made into the game by using the CS? For the Flora Harvest it could've easily have been your fault. Try putting the staves into a chest using the CS and then go to that chest in game after turning on the mod.

I don't mean to be rude, but you guys arn't paying attention here. I put things in the game with the CS. I activate the mod I made. Nothing changes.

Any mod I download has worked. However, if I edit a mod I downloaded, it stops working.
