OlrunZaal
Maybe having a way to mark an entire quadrant of the map in the Pip-Boy as explored would work. Just an optional idea to a physical marking.
SgtKUSMC
I dig the SAR X, that was literally the visual I had when I thought of this. That said.If the issue is a graphics thing, then can we cheat that by making it invisible, like IR ink that can only be seen using a scope?Baring that.A way to at least mark a location in the area map?Baring that.Something that can be left behind that is big enough to be seen but not likely to be looted or moved? Like a radio or something? Can a radio be turned into a craftable that can be carried in inventory?
PoliteRaider
Hmmm, I think maybe I've figured something out but I can't promise anything. I'm going to run a couple of tests to see if I can get this working. Edit: Okay partial success. I've made it so that you can put down a placeable object in the non-workshop areas, however it vanishes as soon as you leave the area or fast-travel. I'm going to see if I can figure out why that's happening and how I can fix it. 2nd Edit: Sorry, I can make placeable objects but I have no idea how to make them persistent or even if it's possible to do so. I've tried everything I can think of and I'm not getting anywhere. Don't think I'm going to manage this one. PoliteRaider
No, I've had no progress here. The vanilla game has synth grenades that you can throw which summon a synth to help you fight. I've been able to use the same technique to allow you to create furniture items out in the rest of the wasteland outside of a settlement and was going to make little posts you can put down with a minuteman logo on them to mark where you've been. The only problem is an item has to be tagged as 'persistent' otherwise it will simply be erased from existence the next time you travel away or even just wait long enough. If you placed down one of my posts it worked just fine, but when you come back again the post is just gone, erased by Fallout 4 to conserve memory because it doesn't believe that the object should be persistent. The problem is that in FO4Edit, unless there's an advanced technique that I don't know about, you can only make an object persistent by specifying everything about it in advance including where it's placed in the world. I believe it's possible using a Script, however I don't know how to write those and it would take me a while to learn those skills. Maybe the GECK will have a solution, maybe someone more experienced than I will find a way of doing it or maybe someone who knows how could write a script to handle this now that the Caprica compiler exists. However I'm sorry to say that this is completely beyond me, I'm not going to be able to implement it. At least not until the GECK is released. Beyond my scripting skills, except in story-lining... We will get there, soon... .
yzerman19
A possible solution to the dilemma is to carry a bunch of low weight junk items, and drop them every so often, so you have a "labyrinth rice trail".
