xXZandyXx
For modding I know that you are meant to follow these instructions to enable - it http://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Fallout_4_Mod_Installation However on line 2. it says to check that Fallout4.ini and Fallout4Prefs.ini aren't read only, however I only have a Fallout4Prefs.ini. Furthermore line 5 says go to the bottom of Fallout4Prefs.ini to the [Launcher] line however this line is nowhere in the ini file. Meanwhile line 5 says go to Fallout4.ini (which doesnt exist in my files) and change the set of stings in [Archive]. I do have an archive section hover this is located in the Fallout4Prefs.ini section, not where the guide said it is. On top of this I haven't tampered with my Fallout 4 folder yet as this is just after a clean install onto a new hard drive. Does anyone know if these instructions are wrong/outdated and if so what are the new instructions. If these are the correct instructions does anyone know wtf is up with my ini files and how to fix them as I currently cannot mod. Thanks for any help. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------found the rest of the files now and have done the changes. However when i open up NMM it still says I need to make some changes to Fallout4Custom.ini . Are these the the Open Fallout4Custom.ini with your favourite text editor. * Note that this file was changed from Fallout4.ini following update 1.2 Add the following lines to your Fallout4Custom.ini [Archive] bInvalidateOlderFiles=1 sResourceDataDirsFinal=instruction as I have done this in the Fallout4.ini one instad Edited February 14, 2016 by xXZandyXx
Hutspot01
Since it's a fresh install. You need to start the game launcher (or start the game through the launcher) once to get the default fallout4.ini. The [Archive] and [Launcher] lines can be added manually, same as the lines you would edit under them.
xXZandyXx
I found the right ones now and made the edits however my mods still arent working. I followed each step exactly as show and its as if my mods arent there. I have them enabled in NMM and I get no error messages. All files are not read only. I have no idea whats stopping it. Hutspot01
Make sure plugins.txt is set to read only before you start the game launcher.
xXZandyXx
where is that located? Also I re set all the files to the new, just downloaded state ( to reset anything that I may of accidentally changed) and have now ONLY edited Fallout4Prefs.ini (below [Launcher] I added bEnableFileSelection=1)and Fallout4Custom.ini (In [Archive] I added bInvalidateOlderFiles=1 and changed the variable sResourceDataDirsFinal= to equal nothing) which are in Documents/My Games/Fallout4. This is correct? If so it still isnt working. --------------------------------------------------------------------------Im not meant to change anything in the Fallout4.ini file right? Before the clean install I was using the STRINGS\TEXTURES\... method and it was working (yes it did have long loading times) however everything ive looked at says leave this file alone but my mods dont work now Edited February 14, 2016 by xXZandyXx
wax2k
That is correct, but if you use the Fallout Launcher, your plugins.txt might still get cleared by it, thus disabling all .esp/.esm mods. So always launch the game directly from NMM (button in the upper left), not from Steam or Fallout's own launcher. Hutspot01
where is that located? Normally at:C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Fallout4\ Appdata is a hidden folder.

xXZandyXx
Make sure plugins.txt is set to read only before you start the game launcher.I've done this but still with read only on and off, still not detecting any mods
wax2k
That is correct, but if you use the Fallout Launcher, your plugins.txt might still get cleared by it, thus disabling all .esp/.esm mods. So always launch the game directly from NMM (button in the upper left), not from Steam or Fallout's own lauCClicked that button and the game launcher came up, still doesn't recognize that any mods are there. Then you either haven't updated NMM yet or you have a wrong Custom Launch Command in the NMM settings for Fallout 4 (leave that empty) or you have switched the names of Fallout4.exe and Fallout4Launcher.exe beforehand due to some people recommending that as a workaround for the same issue. So once again, just to make sure: 1. Make your plugins.txt read-only.2. Delete the two exe files and verify steam cache to get the right ones.3. Check your Fallout4Custom.ini if it still has the necessary lines for archive invalidation and if not add them: http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Fallout_4_Mod_Installation4. Launch NMM, allow it to override the read-only on the plugins.txt and let it update.5. Check the NMM Settings / Fallout 4 tab and empty the line "Custom Launch Command" in case it's not empty.6. Make sure, all your mods are still enabled in NMM's Plugins tab.7. Launch the game via the button in the upper left of NMM.
