Crashing on Fresh Install

Pretty much just what the title says. I had a modded game going, let it sit for a couple months and tried to come back to it and nothing would load. I couldn't continue, couldn't load a save, and couldn't start a new game. I figured something got royally f***ed and uninstalled completely. Now I'm on a fresh 1.1 GOTY install and I STILL can't start a new game to start. When I click "new" it freezes without a word or a flicker and has to be closed through task manager.

Anyone have any ideas?

To uninstall I followed the directions in this thread. After which I installed it outside of the program files folder so I wouldn't get UAC errors. I'm also running it in XP compatibility mode with administrator privileges.

Might be a codec issue then....... Does the opening movie play? (beth logo and all that.) If not, try installing the klite basic codec pack. Be sure that on install, ffdshow is set to ignore oblivion, audio, and video, and its set to repair broken codecs. If you already have Klite, uninstall it, then reinstall it.

PROTIP: Delete the Data folder after uninstalling, the Oblivion uninstall does not clear the data folder of non-Bethseda files (aka mods). It also does not delete the Oblivion ini.

When installing the game, make sure you install the patch appropriate to the games region. If it's a British bought game (do you live in Britain/bought it used?) install the UK patch, if it's a North American game, install the North American Patch, etc. Usually the patching utility won't install into games if they do not match it's localization files, but I've had it sometimes install anyways. If you install a UK patch into an American game (and vice-versa), you will get glitches/crashes.
