mpicorelli
After just a couple of days playing, Long War option stopped working. The game launches as if I haven't installed de mod and the saved files are missing. I use 2011 imac I've downloaded the game from steam and it worked perfectly. Then I've installed Long War and it worked perfectly. Two days after it crashed and then Long War disappeared. The game has gone back to pre-mod version. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the mod. Doesn't work. I tried to go with Steam offline, doesn't work. Any ideas?
mpicorelli
hello againI've tried to uninstalling all, and downloading and reinstalling everything again. It doesn't work. dubiousintent
The most likely reason the game failed in the first place is that you missed something in this article, like failing to turn off "automatic updates" or disabling "phone home". So Steam "verified" your "corrupted" files that the mod changed, breaking LW. Uninstalling LW is a correct first step. Then you need to "verify" files again, and run the game up to the main menu at least twice. Then follow that article before trying to re-install LW. If that doesn't work, repeat except instead of "verifying" files, try uninstalling, rebooting, and then installing the game from the beginning. Given the lengthy process, you may want to backup your "save" files elsewhere and delete the game specific "user files" folder first. You can restore your save game files once you have the mod running properly again. Note that online game syncing may kick in before you are ready unless you disable that first. -Dubious- Edited February 15, 2016 by dubiousintent
mpicorelli
wowThank you Dubious. I've tried all you said and anything worked. And I have an entra issue; i can't turn off automatic updates. In my steam menu that is not an option... mpicorelli
well...I've uninstalled long war, then XCOM EW, then Steam. Next step install all again. Before even applying the mod I've turned off my wifi connection, and when it was installing it asked if I wanted to restore an old back up. I said "no" and when installed long war, without being connected to internet, I've launched the game... And nothing happened, the mod doesn't work. The only options on game properties for checking for updates were: check when launching the game / when launching steam / or high priority search for updates... I can't turn off update checking... I'm new using mods, in fact this is my first time, and I'm desperate because I've play this mod for two days and its is AWESOME. And now it seems that Steam or my computer is ignoring Long War. And I followed the instructions that Dubious linked (thanks again)
mpicorelli
Now I'm reading all docs of the compressed file of the mod, and it says that it should work on Steam... I don't get it
mpicorelli
So...I'm giving up... i've tried everything... deleting all I can imagine and reinstalling everything again... in fact, when applying LW mod it says that the installation was correct, but when l launch the game the menu is pre-mod and i can't select any of the LW options... Ideas?
mpicorelli
Hello again This is my last shot... I went back to vanilla. I deleted all files, even hidden ones, of XCOM or LW. I uninstalled the game and then Steam. I installed all again following the exact steps the LW readme says. Installed the game, and checked cache. Launched the game two times before installing LW, then went offline and after that installed the mod. All installation was correct, LW included. But nothing!!!! I've launched the game even with WIFI disconnected, just in case. BUT NOTHING! The game launches normally as if the mod wasn't installed.              I'm giving up for real... unless someone gives a reason of hope ;) Thanks for reading
dubiousintent
There are a couple more things you can try. Sorry, it's been a while since I had to address that setting in the client. Steam did indeed (in their infinite and oh so helpful wisdom) change things so you can't disable auto-downloads. All you can do in that case is stay "offline" once you start adding mods. And maintain a backup copy of the entire game folder once you get things working again so it's possible to restore things to "pre-update, modded" condition. When you reverted to vanilla did you remember to clear out your "user files" folder? Have you read the "Basic Guide to installing mods" regarding OS/X versions of the game? Depending on where you purchased the game you may need to modify the LW installer script to point to the correct location. We have been getting reports of subtle differences in the folder path names between "AppStore" and other retail versions. There is a LW logfile in the "location where you ran the installer script from" that should help with pinning down what went wrong. Finally, be a little patient. I know you are frustrated, but I only check in here once a day or so. We simply don't have many people able to help with Mac/Linux issues at all. -Dubious- Edited February 16, 2016 by dubiousintent
mpicorelli
Thank you again Dubious,I think I've discovered the real issue: l think that Steam is not loading EW. I bought a pack with EU, Elite Soldier Pack, Slingshot DLC and EW. And the first coupe of days it worked fine with LW. But now, every time I try to launch the game it only loads EU. That could be the reason why LW doesn't load? Now I'm trying to get all the pack running, and then I'll try to install LV again with your suggestions.
