I am suddenly crashing to desktop now whenever I try to pick up a perk/skill magazine.

I've confirmed it happening with all perk magazines. Trying to bypass by adding a magazine with the console results in the same CTD.

 

I uninstalled every mod I have to see if any of them were somehow the issue. I am still crashing to desktop.

 

I suspect it's the latest patch that's doing this somehow.

 

Can anyone help? Any ideas? As of now, I consider this to have pretty much broken my playthrough of the game.

Make sure you really removed all modded files. Your \Fallout 4\data folder should look like this:

If it still happens, try it on a clean new game to rule out savegame corruption.

Looks like savegame corruption. Starting a new game and adding the perk magazines with console does not cause crashing.

 

/sigh

 

Isn't there some mod that lets us save settlement cells to import to other playthroughs? Seems like I remember something like that coming out. If I have to start a new game, I'm just quitting FO4. Way too much work down the tube.

There is Cell Ripper, but I haven't tried it myself. Worth a try but don't get your hopes up too high, since it might still be very buggy.
