Update.

Here is the latest mesh. And someone is working on a texture for it. Linky!

Just a couple minor issues with the proportions. Judging by the size of the hilt, this is a pretty large two-handed sword. This causes two problems:

1) The shape of the blade looks designed for thrusting... and as far as I know, Oblivion (damn you Bethesda!) doesn't have a proper thrusting animation. Unless someone has figured out a way to make new attack animations (and if you have, I will be eternally thankful and may actually mod for the game), you won't be using it right. Otherwise, you might want to make it a bit (not that much) broader and thicker, with a bit less taper up to the tip.

2) With a blade that long, you don't want it sharp along the entire length (imagine the difficulty of actually cutting something with the first few inches near the hilt). I'd make it obviously flat-edged in cross-section there, and optionally with a leather wrap around it. For example, this sword. The purpose of this (called a "ricasso") is so if your opponent gets in close, you shift your grip to put one hand above the hilt, giving you more precise control and a shorter swing arc.

Other than that, the only thing I'd do is add some cross section to the blade, yours still looks too flat. See this image. On something as long as yours, you'd probably have the ridges like the one of the bottom right three. The purpose of this (called a "fuller") is to stiffen the blade, on the same principle as steel I-beams. On a sword as long as yours, this is pretty important.

1) This is not for Oblivion. This is for Morrowind! But I agree, Bethesda missed a very crucial animation when they were creating Oblivion. Another reason that makes Oblivion mindless hack'n'slash. But I'm not gonna discuss this in a thread. If you wish, take this to PM. I will change the size of the blade though. Thanks Peregrine!

2)Hmmm, that's a good Idea. Thanks!

D***, did I really forget to put in a fuller? *looks at model* S***, I'll add that straight away. Would you have it be a full fuller (goes the whole length of the blade) or a half fuller (starts at base and ends halfway through the blade)?

EDIT: Picture 1 Picture 2

Oh, didn't know anyone was still modding that game. That makes things a lot easier, of course. If it's intended as a thrusting-focused weapon, the blade is fine (but you want that ricasso added). I only said that because I thought it was for Oblivion, where you're missing the critical animation to make proper use of that kind of sword.

Probably close to full, maybe 2/3 the length of the blade? Find some pictures of real (original, not modern fantasy junk) swords and see what a blade like yours should have.

Yeah, I like morrowind more. I'll be modding morrowind for years.

I'll go find some pictures in a minute.

Been working on a new sword. Pic.

Well, I finished the latest sword. Link.

Tell me what you think please!

The tip doesn't look right, maybe do something funky with it like curve it to one side or move the angle back further. it does look a bit flat, might want to keep in mind adding some details in the texturing like engraving or something. Could also just widen the blade a bit to make it more axe like. Add some spikes to the guard and blade, oh, and don't forget the flame node, a sword like that hast to be on fire.

Ok, some of that actually works, decided to add the rest just to drive peregrine crazy, he goes for the reality aspects of it way too much. It's a game, things aren't supposed to be real, do the stuff you want to see, not the stuff that has already been done and sitting in a museum somewhere.

Honestly, it's pretty bad. It's completely unrealistic, and a textbook example of making something look "cool" instead of practical. It's way too heavy, the various spikes add nothing but extra weight. Almost as bad, all those sharp edges concentrate stress and increase your chance of a fracture. You will never cut anything with the base of the blade, so why bother adding these secondary blades?

The model itself is fine, I guess, I don't see any technical issues. But the design is just awful.

When you mod a unrealistic game like oblivion, you can do alot more than with a realistic game! :P

Just look at paradox's composite weopon set!

The model looks ok, by the way, i agree with vagrant and peregrine in that it looks cool, but would be kinda useless in battle
