I agree with you Peregrine. (Now don't look so shocked  ) I have even finished the remade blade. Link.

Awe... Who needs practical anyway? It's not like you're actually handing this over to someone to forge it for you. Maybe flawed, but that;s what makes them cool looking. The tip still looks wrong though... Maybe round it out a bit.

Well, I finished the latest sword. Link.

Tell me what you think please!

WOAH! That looks just like the sword I keep in my room!

And as for the most recent one....looks like something out of Arabian Nights or Prince of Persia.

It was modeled off of an actual sword. Fantasy sword that is.

I wanted to go for a Arabian/Egyptian unorthodox sword. I like it.

i like this work, looks pretty nice. Peregrines critique is worth considering, of course, but i think he could pay more attention to the fact, that killing might not be the only use, a sword could be made for :-? The hole form and design of the blade let's me think about something like a "ritual dagger*. And many sabres have just the one and only use to be carried on festivities and shown around for their very artificial decors :-)

The question is, in what story might this blade play what role? Have you thought about gems and such ??

Greetings

btw, gents, let me say, that i'm very surprised about the level, such things are discussed here, so i will keep my mouth and go on reading silently :-)

Well, I've edited the sword quite a bit. It's also been a couple weeks. Linky!

/me returns

Still too much fantasy over realism. Your problems this time:

1) The edge covered by the hilt is pointless, it would be literally impossible to cut anything with it. Especially since this looks like a fairly decent sized sword, dull it so you can shift your grip up (like on the longsword).

2) The sharp corners between the curved and straight sections will focus stress (and in a fight, a sword will bend a fair amount), slash your fatigue life, and make a fracture much more likely. Not only that, but forging such a precise angle would be a huge pain. Round it off to a smooth curve, like I've drawn in red.

3) Your hilt design is again pointless. The forward-pointing spike does nothing useful, and looks like it would break/bend very easily. I've drawn a better shape that still keeps the same design concept.

Well, would you show us this drawing, oh mighty Peregrine?

The attachment feature seems to be broken right now (stuck on "initializing attachments"), so I can't upload it. Learn some patience and you'll probably get to see it someday.
