To Everyone Creating Custom Races

I notice that a lot of custom races have a starting luck score below 50. Now, it says in-game that Luck doesn't govern any skills, and I can understand that this might lead some to believe that Luck is a 'useless' attribute. However, this is not the case. All of your skills are adjusted by 40% of the difference between your current Luck score and 50. In other words, if your custom race has a starting Luck of 30, it's as though you've given your race a -8 to all their skills! Yes, this means that your weapons will do less damage, your armor will absorb less damage, and your spells will cost more magicka.

Now, this is the easiest thing in the world to change via the CS or the console, but I just thought that I would point this out, as I see it so often. For more information, check out the Luck article on UESP.

(If everyone actually *does* know this, my apologies.)

I didn't know this. I've been trying to improve my chances with finding good loot through luck. "Not so", says the article. A fascinating read, Mr. Schijnn.

Thank you for posting this reminder. I have downloaded some really neat races that were seriously hampered by that. I wouldn't personally want to play a character with 30 luck unless it was an rp thing, and I really wanted the character to struggle. People who don't know how to change it or don't know that low-luck characters are hard to play would probably have a miserable experience with such a mod.

In case people were not aware, Luck changes little. It is well known that loot's occurance are set percentages and contents are randomized. Luck has no impact on loot. It does increase skills meagrely, but not athletics or acrobatics, improves health of the fight you bet on in the Arena (None if above 100 or 99 exactly, none if below 50), and little else. Most of the things in game are either set or randomized or levelled. That's because it is too much a bother to redirect the game engine itself where a lot of things lie using scripts, so at best luck could be modded to make a simulation, not an immersive luck experience. Hope that cleared things up. In other words, there is no real need for extra luck. Besides, since using the Console you can increase attributes past 100, you can level up extensively to make up for the lower luck, as well as maxing out most other attributes. But if you were will to do that, you may as well just increase the actor values to put Luck at 100 with player.setav Luck 100.

I actually tried a 30 luck character once, and it made a difference with my playstyle. However, my gameplay is almost entirely vanilla other than some custom races, which of course play differently depending on their natures. No combat mods, no race balancing mods, etc. I know how to use the console well enough to find a code, but I only use it if the game glitches seriously and my character is stuck usually. I'd rather roleplay my way out of things I can. For me, levelling a character with 30 luck would be kind of frustrating. The races I downloaded that had really low luck only do it to one sex, so one possibility would be to just give both sexes the same stats if it's one of those. Now I wonder what stats the leprechaun race has.
