spiritshadowx
When you talk about choppy in VATS, does the cursor move fast or do you have a low frame rate?
BlackRampage
Can I use ini lines from Oblivion stutter remover to help improve Fallout 3? and which lines should I look for to change? Are stutter problems when looking side to side and up and down also related to choppy VATS movement?Simple. Try donwloading this ini: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15962 You can either try that one instead of your own and see how it works, or use it as a "guide" to modify your own ini.Just make sure you backup your old ini first. Also, this "mod" is actually a port from oblivion: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8886 Oh and choppy vats movement can indeed be related to "stutter problems". Edit: spelling. (typing too fast :teehee: ) Edited May 18, 2011 by BlackRampage
Bitdman
I need to apologize to you and ccmechanic. I have sent you on a wild goose chase, so to speak. I have solved a lot of my crashing and stuttering problems by doing what I should have done first.....Check the data folders to make sure the mods installed correctly. I found a data folder in the data folder directory and unpacked it by hand, also found a meshes and texture folder in the meshes folder and another textures folder in the directories texture folder. After unpacking and deleting the extra content the game runs very smooth, even vats. It still crashed after about 3hrs of play but this is probably due to all settings being maxed out, dirty mods, or bad mod order

Bit of a newbie mistake if you don't mind me saying... :whistling:  (especially after seeing this post by yourself: http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/382306-chipping-away-at-crash-problems/page__p__3144448__fromsearch__1#entry3144448) Anyway, I really appreciate the fact you've actually taken the effort to respond and apologize. kudos for you. (although the apology is unnecessary) Oh, and don't worry. I didn't feel like it was a wild goose chase at all. Last one, was this also related to this?: http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/380424-fallout-has-stopped-error/page__p__3127863__fromsearch__1#entry3127863 and, more importantly, has it been solved? If so, you might want to give ccmechanic a heads-up about that. (unless it was already solved before of course) By the way, looking at your avatar, I'd say it more of a wild chicken chase, no?
Bitdman
Ya! I should practice what I preach  Sometimes we make things allot more complicated than we need to. That being said, not all the problems are gone. I've had the game crash twice at Ten Penny tower both times it was during screen loading. What do you know about pagefile settings? I'm running the game on a separate SSD drive, should I disable any pagefile or assign a large pagefile size?

(unless you have a serious lack of ram, which I doubt.) I haven't even bothered with it anymore ever since I upgraded to Win 7. Although, I must admit, if you want to be really, really certain, you should ask someone who's more knowledgeable about that.
Bitdman
I used that trick back in the day of Morrowind and it seemed to have worked. But I've never understood what a pagefile is or if it even affects the game. I do know that in the settings I have the option to assign a pagefile size to any drive along as they add up to no more than 12785 Mb. I just thought that since the game crashes at screen load it might be a memory problem :psyduck:
BlackRampage
A pagefile's just a portion of a storage device (such as a harddisk) which is reserved as, well, "extra" ram memory. (virtual memory, if you will)It essentially allows the operating system (windows in this case) to use a portion of the available space on a disk to store data which would not fit on the RAM available. However, since FO3 is actually a 32 bit program, it will never use more then 2 gigs of your memory. This means that if you, for example, have 4 gigs of memory, FO3 will never use it. Unless you use the "ram boost mod" of course. (you do have that, right?) So, depending on what rig you've got, I'd say it's highly doubtful it's a memory problem. Anyway, this getting way off-topic... :whistling:
