Hello!

 

I have a sweet idea for a new race!

How about a shark-race?

 

Mesh idea :

-a new body for the shark figure. The male one,with a dark blueish' colour, very flushed. The female variant a light bluish- colour.

-A exnem version would be awesome.

-The body would be basically, a shark standing on legs, with fins on the back, and small ones on the side, possibly some on the arms. Gills on the neck/head area, and a tail, a shark-tail.

-Maybe on the footside, merge all the toes into one "toe", that would be the foot.

-The body can wear normal clothes, and/or exnem clothes, but the fins, can be invisible(hidden under the clothes?) possibly, when wearing clothes.

-The head, is big :P

-Helmets?

 

Texture idea :

-The male version, would look very bluish' which can be atered during the "create character" menu(adjusting the sliders).

-The female version, would look pale, no, not pale, but light-blue of colour. Compleat with breasts and pee-pee area.

 

Powers/abilities :

-Waterbreathing.

-Some kind of faster swim or something. Travel faster under water, maybe?

-Some kind of fright/scare power, maybe the same as khajiit?

-increased strenght, agility and maybe intelligence(dolphins are so smart, right? maybe sharks are a little clever)

-I haven't figureds out about any penalty during on land, but I prefer not.

-Haven't figured out if this is a magical creature (high elf'ish) or a warrior creature(orc), but I prefer the 2'nd.

 

This seems like a cool idea, but proly a whole amount of work. And I can't really be of any help, sicne I suck at modelling. I can perhaps make some textures. I got no sketches or similiar, but feel free to help. I only have a vision in my mind :P

All comments are appreciated, and It would be awesome if someone fdecided to create this.

Feel free to add on to the ideas, of powers and such.

These are pictures that I found! They seem pretty neat, and it would be cool to stalk Cyrodil with this creature :)

Although dolphins may be smart, dolphins are mamals where'as sharks are fish. They probably arn't that smart. Are you planning on making any cons of beeing this race? Like you can only survive underwater and moving just like a real shark?

although this is a really cool idea, it would probably take a VERY long time for it all to be finished, as many new meshes, textures, animations and other things would be needed. It was very well thought out though

Indeed, as far as I know, there arent even any sharks, dolphins, or other creatures in Oblivion. I would hope that whoever would be skilled enough to do the modeling would have atleast done that much (and generally more useful) before trying to adapt it to a more human form.

 

Also, custom animations, like walking, swimming, cannot be done without screwing up everything else. At best, this sort of thing would only be applicable as a creature and thus not playable. Since it would be a creature, you wouldn't have to work out the serious problems with trying to make clothing and armor look right.

In respond to Sypron : I'm thinking about it, but cons would be anything based on being on land, and since 96% of the game, is played on land, that would be a real punishment to this shark-race.

Yes, you are correct about mammals and fish. How about some it's(the race) personality being set at 20, or something...permanent.

Low speechcraft,and mercantile? Maybe a damaged armor-skill when on land? But I think it's natural to add a strenght perk and agility perk to this shark-race(though It will proly never exist) Feel free to add, Sypron :)

 

In respond to chjoco15 : The animations would be the same, I suppose, except for maybe a new swim animation.

The biggest issue, is to get the head right, I guess, though, I'm no modeller. The rest of the body should just be a bit more bulky, and added fins, and spot, but they are texture related. I think this would be an awesome addition though it may not relate to any of the races present in Cyrodil.

 

In respond to Vagrant0 : Yes. A good modeller is needed. I'm sorry, but I am just a boy with ideas :P I don't know anything about textures, meshes and 3d-stuff :) I've once created a gun for the popular fps- shooter Counterstrike , in my best days, but those are over and gone. I used Milshape.

This is how I see it :

 

The Shark animations are pretty much the same as any other race animation. Except the swim animation, which would be altered to be more shark'ish, fish-like, and oh, so fast!

The meshes, are the worst. The head is the toughest. I don't know If I favour the eyes in the picture, or the eyes of the actuak shark. You know! Those big, googley eyes! Though they might be funny, they are very freaky and scary :P sorry, no photo!

The abilities I need to work on and greet help from you, and everyone else.

I would really like to see this race come to life :)

 

The Shark race, can wear armour and pants(?), and then the fins, are concealed inside the armour. But the helmets....I don't think the shark can wear helmets, coz the head is pretty big....not enourmus, but big.

Hahaha, I just used milshape and tried to model the shark head.

Let's just say that this project is dead ;)

Posting here since you were going off topic in the other thread. Even adapting the shark idea to work with existing body types isn't really viable.

 

First, you would need to find someone capable at making new meshes and rigging them in order to do anything. Since you yourself don't currently posess that talent, nobody has stepped forward who might, and most those who can either require payment, or are busy with other projects.

 

Second, even if you did find someone to do the models, you would be bound by some of the limitations currently in place. Heads have to behave similarly to how current heads do (without looking really wierd, or causing clipping issues) , tails would have to behave like tails currently do (without looking really wierd, or causing clipping issues). This means that any sort of head would only be vaguely shark like, and that any sort of tail would have to be really thin and whiplike (think argonian tail with fins), and even then you'd have serious clipping issues. No matter how you rig it, you would not be able to make the tail look right.

 

Then there's the whole practicality issue, what does this really add to the game beyond the whole "my character looks quasi-shark like"? There really isn't anywhere that swimming is of importance, water life is virtually non-existant so there isn't anything worth hunting in the water. As cool as the idea seems, it really doesn't provide anything useful to anyone, and would be more a matter of someone spending months creating meshes for a result that isn't even close to what you really want. This is why I suggested that it would be far more useful as being limited to a creature since you aren't so limited about how it can look, and it actually adds something to the game that people might want to use for more than a short while. This still requires someone to do the models, so even then, there is no point in discussing the matter further until that someone steps forward.

 

If you're determined to use it as a race, about the best you're gonna get would be something similar to...

 

Much to the praise of the couple narutards around here... Would still need somone to do the modeling.

ah, Ok! I guess this is dead then.

Since there are nobody out there who is willing to give it a go, or even if there were, it would NEVER look as good as I wanted it to.

Your anime-photo is not what I had in mind, but I realize that this is as close we can come...

And I think that is weird. I look at all the great mods and stuff, and I honestly can't believe that it is so difficult to make an argonian tail into a shorter shark-tail.

 

I can understand that making a sharkheads mesh would be hard, but I doubt it is impossible.

But there is ofcourse the limitations. I also understand the no need for a good water-based creature in the game, but I thought It would be pretty cool, since there already are khajiits and argonians. We need more obscure races!

When I think sea, I think of the great, powerful,cool-looking shark.

Thats why I wanted to do this....well, I can't do it, so I suggested it.

 

I can't believe it is so hard, but I have yet a lot to learn from the modeling buisness.

Thanks for explaining Vagrant0. I guess I need 3d studio Max, to try and make my shark-head.

If anybody can privide me with a profile shot of a shark-head, and a palmar view, that would be great.
