johnkaryan
Hi there, I tried to search these forums for another thread on this particular crash, but couldn't find anything. So on to the problem: Unique Landscapes runs smoothly (as in not crashing, though my comp isn't really up to it in terms of FPS), but I've found at least two places where I experience a CTD every single time I go there. One is near Bravil, the other in Anvil. If I stand before the bridge in Bravil (main entrance) and go along the road going south to get around the city, the road turns left and goes downhill a bit before a small bridge. I usually get to the turn and right as I turn to see the bridge it crashes. And it doesn't matter which way I'm looking, every time. The other one I've found was in Anvil, where if I'm on the docks at the back, step off of them and continue west I crash before reaching the trees (or just as I reach them, can't remember exactly). Note that the game doesn't crash when I approach Anvil along the road, I've only noticed this exiting the docks. It is also entirely possible that UL crashes in other places too, but these are the two I noticed before I got rid of it. The worrisome part is that even if I turn off UL (I'm using a compilation OMOD) I still crash at the exact same spots. It's so bad that the only way to get the game working properly again I've found to actually work is to completely uninstall and reinstall everything along with wiping the folder. Which is a pain in the butt. On a clean install with the exact same mods (apart from UL naturally) everything works fine. I'd really like to use UL since it's stunning, but at the moment it's not an option. Has anyone else noticed this behavior? Maybe fixed in an update (I'm not sure what version I was running but it was most likely from around Dec 2010)? The compatibility patches probably won't work since I'm not running anything listed on that page, and I'm also not running Better Cities (until I can get my comp upgraded). They were dead last in load order etc. I haven't tried using ONLY UL on a totally clean install yet, but that will be my next step after I upgrade, but until then, can anyone help? (I will also try the most up to date version before wiping the game, and probably install all of the compatibility patches, even though I have none of those mods, just to try it out.) HeyYou
Don't install patches for mods you do not have. The game will crash before you even get to the main menu. Is this something that has been happening for quite a while in your game? Or, is this just something you noticed recently? Have you stayed away from the area's in question for four days (or, whatever your respawn time is set to...), and tried again?

I have never ever gotten around Bravil with UL installed. And I did continue playing a game where I noticed this a few weeks doing stuff in other places, probably around a month in game time, no effect. I noticed the Anvil one quite recently, but admittedly it was the first time I'd gone that way so can't comment more on that. EDIT: I'll also add that I used to experience "random" crashes while walking around outside, most often right after I'd found a location. I tracked this down to a RAM problem, and fixed it by setting the exe to use >2GB address set. I have since not crashed once while just roaming around, but the same crashes at Bravil and Anvil do happen. And I currently don't have UL installed and won't because if it doesn't work I'd have to uninstall everything. I'm upgrading my computer next week (probably) and I'm going to use mTES4 to try out different things after everything is set up nicely. HeyYou
I haven't seen any reports of UL, in and of themselves, causing crashes of this nature...... but, it seems you have tried to run JUST the UL mods, and No others, and still get the crash? bben46
I have seen this type of crash when the game is looking for something to load and cannot find it. This most often happens when you remove a mod that had something in that cell or a nearby cell that would be seen at that point. I'm not sure if this will work, but you may try moving to a point just before the crash, turning around and backing into the area Then once you are well past that point turn back around as see if it crashes then. That would verify it is something you should be able to see that is no longer there. One suggestion is to go into a safe location - Usually any interior cell that has not been modified. The Tiber Septum Hotel is one, or COC Testinghall is another. Wait for more than 3 game days for everything to reset. Then try it.

And like I said, if I installed the exact same mods after a clean install but left out UL, everything worked. If the problem comes back next time I'll try the backing up trick. johnkaryan
So yeah, I did another clean install and everything works great. Don't know what caused it before, but I'm pretty happy with everything now.
