Torque261987
I'd like to start somewhere simple, quick, & easy to get into, just generally something that will ease me into it, where would I start? Personally what I'd like to do as far as mods go, are things that I believe seem really simple in mind but I've no idea if it actually is. For example; what I'm thinking is things like mods for item management, to be more accurate, a mod that will basically just automatically drop an item or item(s) when you reach over encumbered. I'd like for it to have a simple mcm menu so that players can choose what items are randomly dropped first such as value by weight, just weight, weapons, armor, consumables, junk or etc. just something that allows the player to choose what items take priority to drop over others. Also, I'm afraid that my knowledge of modding only extends as far as duplicating items in Skyrim & placing it in a random location in the world & other such things, so I'm hoping that someone doesn't mind answering some questions from a completely noobish stand-point. Thanks in advance.
Ethreon
There isn't even an MCM menu yet, and I wouldn't categorize that as easy.Item drop on overencumbered should be a script, probably not difficult, but not the thing one would recommend to a beginner. Most likely you should start with retex mods to familiarize you with the way game handles stuff. Weapon stat modifications, workshop items etc, they are easy to make. Torque261987
Are there any specific programs I need to download & install for retex modding?
Ethreon
GIMP, Photoshop, I think nVidia has some .dds plugins for Ph.. Material Editor, Nifskope, FO4Edit.
Torque261987
I might be out of luck with photoshop & the .dds plugins, not sure what Ph is or what it stands for... mostly the problem with photoshop is money, I don't have a source of income so that's not happening anytime soon... Torque261987
Alright cool, thanks. Would you also happen to know if there's any youtubers that you recommend that can help with tutorials or anything of the sort?
PoliteRaider
Here are some free programs that are useful for modding different aspects of Fallout 4. What you'll need depends on what you want to change, I've attached brief summaries but these are not going to be equal to what you can find out by reading or watching a full tutorial on that aspect of Fallout 4 Modding.Nifskope is used to view and edit 3d Model files for Fallout 4.Material Editor is used to change the 'material' for a object. This is new to Fallout 4 and allows you to specify the texture maps and related visual details for a 3d object.FO4Edit is used to view the game's data files and make adjustments to variables and objects in the game.GIMP is an advanced image editing program, similar to photoshop but free.MultiXWM converts the game's .xwm sound files into readable and editable .wavs and back again.Unfuzer opens the game's .fuz voice archives so that you can get the .xwm sound file and the .lip animation data separately.Audacity is a free high-quality audio editing program.7Zip is a file compressor suitable for opening and creating mod archives. Thanks, appreciated. I'm using winrar, does that do the same thing as 7zip?
