Stable game - Install ENB - CTD while exploring

Recommended Posts

Clean re-install, downloaded SKSE directly from their page and installed, installed FINIS and ran it.... And it still crashes near Riverwood... :confused:

(btw, how does one edit the topic name? I would like to update it. Is it a moderator exclusive thing?)

When you reinstall SKSE, remember to setup your sksi.ini.

[Memory_Notes]

; DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB

; Set DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB:Memory to 768. If you are using a lot of mods or higher uGrid than 5 then set 1024. Helps with CTD during save load, especially if you can load the save after qasmoke. Max value is 1280. If you are using ENB you may get CTD on startup with high value.

; 512 lowest working

; 896 causes crash at loading screen

; Defaults

DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB=768

ScrapHeapSizeMB=256

I created a vanilla profile in MO with only these enabled, just for starting a new character.

Also, try setting your video control panel to vanilla as well--turn off all fancy effects except v-sync. If you're using enb, turn off v-sync, too, to let enb do all effects.

Once you've reached riverwood, stay vanilla until you talk to the blacksmith to end that quest stage. Hard save and load that save.

All right, did all that and vanilla seems stable enough, after the hard save I was able to run to Whiterun, fast travel to Solitude and walk around a bit. Thank you!

Would it be safe to install enb and try to run a few mods? What type of mods should I run? I'm thinking of starting with graphical and lighting mods and going from there... I'm positive the game would CTD immediately if I tried to load my 200+ mod list in one go :wink:

The thing to do now is make a backup. Create a new profile by copying your vanilla. Then add a few mods at a time, or tweak like a freak. Either way you now have a good place to revert back.

Well that sucks, but at least you've narrowed down the problem within the first batch of changes. That's good progress.

Unfortunately I dont have experience with most of these climate and environment mods.

If you had enb installed yesterday when you were able to run around Solitude, the problem isn't there. Nonetheless there may be a couple of problems in your enblocal. I recommend these changes:

If you made any changes to your video control panel, revert those because the freeze problem may be there.

Also I think you need UHRP.

I've been testing all day and it seems to be freezing in places with a lot of movement, such as waterfalls and fights outside Riverwood. (Still can't reach Whiterun)

Could be vram starving, maybe due to a lot of high res texture mods. For a test to see if it's vram, try setting your graphics to medium in Skyrim Launcher. And in your enblocal.ini:

[MEMORY]
; VideoMemorySizeMb=3968 <-- increase this, probably will cause camera stuttering but should stop ctd
VideoMemorySizeMb=10240

Will do. That makes me wonder... If I play Skyrim to medium, but still load mods like 2k skyrim and SMIM, am I going to notice a lot the changes vs playing on ultra?

EDIT: umm, the camera stuttering I had is virtually gone and it runs really smooth, until it starts freezing, 2 or 3 times, each time longer, and then freezes completely.

I just started a new game with the new profile (not the vanilla one, the slowly-add-mods one) and had a stupid bug I used to have sometime ago:

The Spinning Carriage!

Right at the opening sequence, when you're being transported to Helgen, the camera spins like you're inside a washing machine and if you tfc the thing is all wrong.

Does anyone know which mod causes this, I have none that changes carriage system, but when the game was running smoothly I used to have a problem which I couldn't fast travel in boats (like in Dawnstar and Solitude).

I have my fps limited to 50 using NVidea Inspector

And skipping the intro, I get infinite loading screens leaving the cave.

Sorry for dumping so much information here, but at least helps me organize and might help someone else when I finnaly figure out what's wrong~
