jhardingame
One thing you have to understand is the cells are separate. Just destroying part of the wall would have to move the entire cell to the outside cell. Its really not very plausible. Actually, we don't really know that yet. While it was like that on Gamebryo, it dosen't mean it will be like that on Creation Engine (though it probably will due to gameworld size). It could be like Source/CryEngine where tranisitions between indoor and out are all in the same world. Plus, we also had the same thing happen in Point Lookout(the destruction of the manison), Broken Steel(if you blow up the Pentagon), and with blowing up Megaton, which all WAS on Gamebryo. Not exactly the whole complete "destructible environments" as in you shoot it and it blows up, but it's the same concept. I mean, we even have a mod for Fallout 3 that takes some of the world objects and make them destructable. Looking at the the tour of the office it's quite obvious when he is showing a level designer that he is using almost the same setup as I do for modding in geck and cs. Some world objects? yes buildings? Hell no. And no it is not Source nor crytek it is very simular to Gamebryo that we will mod upon. Those destructions are a different thing. they are scripted events part of the quest. The rubble was MANUALLY added by them. Its not like there was actually a nuke and it calculated what is going to happen to the town. Edited May 27, 2011 by antonkr
NAPALM13092
Basic destruction would be possible with the engine such as lighting materials on fire or knocking things over but that is about the extent of it. Complete destruction such as craters, buildings collapsing, putting holes in walls, breaking down doors, destroying trees, smashing stone is not possible in Skyrim the engine will not support it plus Skyrim just like Oblivion has interior and exterior cells everything is not one world space just the illusion of such so breaking down a door or wall wouldn't work very well. To have a game with fully destructable enviroments like Battlefield or Red Faction you need to design your game and engine with that in mind from the start it isn't something you can just do after the fact. Would it be nice yea but with the engine limitations and the way Elder Scrolls games fundamentally work it will never happen with Skyrim. aaroncox
and i'm guessing mods won't be able to make the environment completely destructable after skyrim comes out. because it wasn't orginally planned from the beginning of skyrim creation right?
