bwelch55
I think users (especially NMA types) over emphasize the super future retroness of the fallout universe. In Fallout/Fallout 2 you could get shotguns and battle rifles/assault rifles that by our standards would be futuristic. I do agree that more people should make 50's/early 60ish weapons, but realize that even in the FO universe, high tech ultra modern weaponry was being made before the fall. Thing is, both types of weapons are acceptable to the "timeline". And the people who model and texture the weapons do a great job and everything. But there's modern, futuristic, and then there's the older ones. No one makes the older ones.
Moraelin
That's not entirely exact, though. I'm pretty sure I've seen BAR's, Enfields, Lewis LMGs and M1911 pistols and whatnot around in those huge collections floating around. Someone must be doing them, otherwise it would be a miracle ;)
ita
I'm gonna spoil this little trollfest with some actual content. The rifle in this picture:http://www.valkyriearms.com/images/delisle1.jpg has actually been done.

TraderRager
Now to show my neutralness, I'll say that what we aren't seeing enough of are the rarer weapons - Anyone remember the Calcio line of guns? Used in like...every 80's sci-fi ever? Damn. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/57/M105calico4143.jpgThere's a nice pic, with a walnut finish too. Helical magazine, so the reload probably would be the hardest part to animate. You could probably make the 12.7 SMG's reload work. It has the same type of magazine, and you would only have to modify the grip layout a little to make the anims work.
MajikMoshos
Yeah, I was thinking that maybe it could take cue from some revolver's speedload animation too, and use the standard holding animations perhaps from the lever-action shotgun, Brush Gun or other repeater. I think it's grip and handguard are at a similar distance to those groups of weapons. The weapon then just needs to work with .22 rounds as a bigger, louder brother to the .22 pistol and SMG, while a unique variant could be chambered to use .45 Auto rounds - with some kind of special perk attached to the weapon that allows it to fire the Super hand load rounds without the huge damage to condition. Finally, call it a .22 Assault Weapon. I might start a seperate topic about rare guns since...this thread's getting a bit out of hand.
huntsman2310a
yeah to keep this thread on track, what you said is a very good point. BUT they are making weapons that they want to use, and they want to share with others. That doesn't mean you are obligated to download and use the Ultra-Modern (for us at least) BFG. And there are a couple of mods that add that silenced carbine (Azhteks weapon overhaul) and the Mateba Auto-Revolver is over in the FO3 nexus somewhere. Of course you could look up a few tutorials for the new Blender (easier to get into), find some concept art for the weps and go from there. MajikMoshos
Meshmaking is less of a problem for me, though I'm still not great at it. It's just texturing where I really mess up.
