MoutainSplitter
I'm not sure what is going on with my game, but for some reason the game says that the trail carbine has no attachments. I can buy the scope, but when I hit "x" to mod it, it says I can't. I even made a different version of the trail carbine in the GECK that uses the attachment and everything, and it still doesn't work.
dubiousintent
There is a subtle issue with this game in that not all weapons with the same approximate name are equal. If a weapon mod won't work with your specific weapon, it means there is something different about the weapon than the weapon mod is looking for. This is especially true with "unique weapons", but can also occur with ones added by a mod if they have a different "id". You need to look more closely at the weapon mod itself. -Dubious-
MoutainSplitter
I still can't put the attachments on the base game's trail carbine, but I did try something with my unique gun in the GECK. I swapped out the .nif of the trail carbine with the scoped version. Now in game it has the scope sorta, but the textures are all messed up. It's the custom trail carbine, but using the mesh traincarbinescoped.nif, which don't seem to change appearance, but I set the 1rst person model to trailcarbinescoped as well. When thats set, I can see the gun with the scope. Then all the textures are messed up. Not sure what to do.
dubiousintent
The NIF file has the path to the texture (DDS file) it uses embedded in it. You may need to compare the path in both your custom NIF and the vanilla NIF. Note that the path must be "relative" to the Data folder (i.e. "..\textures"); NOT absolute (i.e. "C:\<install path>\Data\textures"). Of course if you have installed some other mod that replaced the vanilla texture DDS file, that would explain the difference in appearance. Edit: Just found this newly updated mod, which may be of some assistance. -Dubious- Edited March 13, 2016 by dubiousintent

The author of that mod is aware of the issue but has never fixed it. I will try to explain the problem-if you look at the trail carbine in the GECK you will see that the only available mod is the scope. There are three "slots" for potential mods. For some reason, for the trail carbine, the first "slot" is blank and the scope is shown in the second "slot". Weapon Mod Manager is configured so that it checks only the first "slot". If that slot is blank, it concludes that the weapon cannot be modified.
dubiousintent
Oooo. That's interesting to know. (Learn something new today: check!) Isn't it possible to "move" the scope to the first slot? That would seem to be the primary fix. -Dubious-

That is what I did with the Ferguson Rifle (from New Vegas Bounties I) to get the weapon mod menu to recognize that it could be equipped with a scope. For it to work with all trail carbines, you would have to save your change as an additional plug in. Alternatively, if you just wanted to equip a vanilla trail carbine with a scope, you could disable weapon mod menu, attach the scope and then re-enable the mod. I noticed that when I was in the GECK trying to figure out what was happening. I do use the Weapon Mod manager. Ill try this. Thanks!
