Random CTD - New to modding

The problem I have that I don't know how to pin point is that my game randomly crashes in the middle of play. I started the game using Alternative Life Start with the companions and I was heading out do the first companions quest (already outside of the city). I have the steam skyrim legendary edition installed at the root C:\ drive. As said with the beginners guide to modding from reddit, I use MO. I also have the latest SKSE version, wrye bash, loot, fnis generate for users and tes5edit. I also rebuild bash patch before every launch and use loot. If it is of any help, I also use the basic ENB. Thanks for the help, if any.

 

I uninstalled some of the mods that I thought could be causing the problems. First went A Quality World Map, then AOS2, then Wonders of Weather, then True Storms.

 

My specs are:

 

Windows 10

12GB RAM

Intel Core i5-3330 CPU @ 3.00GHz (4 CPUs), -3.2GHz

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 GPU (2K vram but the vram size tool said 4k?)

130GB free space

have you tried without the ENB ? (just rename d3d9.dll to something else)

 

Have you tried renaming your skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini and letting the game create fresh ones ? (that fixed my random CTD's)

I deleted my skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs but how exactly is deleting the enb going to fix anything? (just asking since I don't have any preset installed and I only have the barebones version)

Oh I see, the ENBoost ? probably nothing then, but its still worth trying it ? Dont delete but just rename d3d9.dll to something else, that will 'deactivate' it. It's just trial and error, if you deactivate ENBoost and it still crashes, reactivate your ENB and look for something else.

 

Or start a brand new game and see how long you can play without crashing. Sometimes its just a matter of having installed/uninstalled a od while playing and some script or reference is still lingering in your savegame.

 

Quickest way that I learned not long ago, start Skyrim, while on the menu screen bring down the console and type coc riverwood (press enter.) Start from there

Yeah, I think that's what it's called. I turned the game on without the ENB with a fresh game save and it still crashes randomly. Upon starting the game I get some message saying "FNIS PCEA failed to generate" etc etc. Think this could be the source of the problem?

Jesus christ. Is this really the "skyrim modding experience"? I have fixed the game, I get no more crashing and no more errors. The game looks awesome. There is still stability issues (random, occasional crashes here and there) though and I'm not even running that many mods. How do I optimize the game so that I get no crashes AT ALL?

"At all", I suppose if you have just texture and mesh replacers without anything else. But crashes shouln't be too frequent (every hour or two). If you don't have skse.ini file with memory tweak, I'd recommend adding it too.

Summerset isles caused me some weird issues, in same time I never had problems with such classical dlc type mods like Falskaar and Wyrmstooth. AoS2 been working fine without any problems, but Sounds of Skyrim likes to cause them (sometimes).

Enboost should help too, not just crash your game. Maybe problems with enblocal.ini settings or try older version.

So you're saying that crashes are inevitable no matter what I do? I have the memory patch, built merged patches and bashed patches, fnis generated and you would think that I wouldn't crash so often with these but I crash every 5 to 20 minutes (even when standing still). Since I crash either way, I added some more mods to enhance my gameplay, namely XCE, Duel - Combat Realism, ACE, Community Uncapper, ASIS, SPERG, Weapons and Armor Fixes Remade and Complete Crafting Overhaul. I know these are quite a handful of mods but I added them since I crash either way and I have no idea how to fix it. Here's my new load order.

Update: Increased the VRAM size in enblocal.ini from 3100 to 3700, added Path of Shadows mod and checked each mod's page for compatibility issues and made changes where necessary. No change in CTD, still happening between 5 to 20 minutes.

Im still investigating my mod list, but it seems that Violens crashes my game randomly. I deactivated it temporarily and no CTD's at all since then.

 

Well by that I mean I played 3 hours straight with no crashes. Felt so good lol. I still quicksave like a madman though, old habits hehe

Good, but be carefull with your saves, do not quicksave all the time, make sure to make a normal savegame to. Savegames can become corrupt and the last thing you want is your quicksave with 100 hours to not load and have a regular save as backup.
