how to stop GNR songs ( or change them)

hello, been trying to shut 3Dog up as my companion eyebot is constantly playing music or giving me news updates - and I prefer to wander the wastes in peace and quiet. I thought it would be simple enough - just rename the song folder in Data - and that did seem to work for one session, but then the songs and news came back again. Eventually I decided if I can't beat them I will join them, so downloaded a mod giving 100 new songs, but then thought, no, not what I want. Then I found a mod which described how to replace the standard songs with your own music. Tried that, and the songs I chose play fine when i click on the files, but do not figure in the game, so, finally I removed the entire song folder from Data - and it is STILL playing the old songs even though there is no folder in Data .. so where are they? in the .BSA? If someone can point me to a solution I would be most appreciative!

well, have found that the songs are indeed held in the BSA sounds archive file, and have downloaded a tool and found out how to create a new BSA archive, but haven't got much further as not sure what to do - music files are already compressed, and do not know correct format; mp3, wav or .ogg is required, or how I put new files into the archive in correct order and syntax. I am no modder, so would be grateful for a pointer - or do I just give up? I have tried not having the sound BSA at all, but then I miss the sound of the wind in the trees ( yes I have leafy trees in my game) and the whirr of my little buddies as they follow me around... I ..just..want..to..get..RID..of, or replace..the 1930/40's boring........SONGS!!

Open the Pipboy, open the "Data" section, and turn the radio off.

Frazzle and Sgt Rock - but the latter is not the problem. I have just put a mod on which ( I think) replaces the sound files from GNR with blank files, so for now it is peaceful and Frazzle is not saying or playing anything from GNR (bliss), but I have tried other ways of getting rid of the music files, and it has appeared to work for that session, but the next time I load the game, GNR is back, even when there has been no song file in the Data folder - so I am half expecting that the same thing will happen this time - I will know tomorrow.....

yay - tomorrow has come and the airwaves are still free of GNR... hope this will fix it for keeps; one happy ol lady :)
