Framerate issues

Recommended Posts

The game runs REALLY, REALLY slow for me. The audio works fine though. My laptop is brand new, and cost me 1000 dollars. The graphics card is a AMD M880G with ATI mobility Radeon HD 4250 Graphics with 128 MB Display Cache Memory

About the only suggestions i can make are to set all settings to low disable antialiasing and close all unnecessary background programs as well as making an exception in your antivirus program for the witcher 2

What video card would you recommend? Would it be possible to buy a better one and replace it, even if I'm using a laptop?

It's very unlikely you'll be able to upgrade the GPU in a laptop, what model is it?

As far as i know about the only laptop that will let you upgrade the GPU chip would be Alienware . There may be others out there . But if there are i`m not aware of them .

I don't think that HD4250 could be upgraded since its more of an onboard IGP than a discreet GPU. Most likely it is built into the motherboard than on a separate expansion card.

Also, the HD4250 is like one of the lowest end HD4XXX series GPU's made. Well at least it's better than most of the Intel GMA/HD Graphics crap that most budget laptops come equipped with anyways. :)

You could try getting this freeware programme

http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html

I find it helps a lot with my older rig.

All that program does is end some non critical system processes to free up more ram/cpu time and restarts them after your exit your game, etc.

This can also be easily done up opening up task manager and ending processes. Or by removing start up programs/services from msconfig.

Yep, but you can do it with one click rather than half a dozen, if the guy is getting framerate problems then the more RAM and CPU available the better.
