FO4Edit Newbie needs help!

Recommended Posts

Hey there, people who use FO4Edit - how do you make a mod?

Specifically, I want to un-nerf the artillery smoke grenade throw distance (I don't like my grenades hitting an invisible wall in midair well short of my intended target). I'm pretty sure all I need to do is alter the ArtillerySmokeFlareProjectile (projectile) record, and change that range=10000 to range=15000 like the other grenades (at least, I'm pretty sure that's it - I can't find any other thing that looks about right).

Unfortunately, I've never used xedit like this before - creating merged patches and cleaning master files is about all I've ever done with it. So how do I actually do what I want to do? There's no method I can find to actually type in text or alter anything - I can view, but not edit.

Please help!

p.s. I'm sure the CK (or GECK or whatever) will be just fine for this when it comes out, but there's no telling exactly when that'll be, and anyway I'm an impatient, entitled whinger and I want it noooowwwwwww!!!!!

The issue with the Artillery Smoke Grenade is not it's range it is the timer on the explosion itself. When the explosion happens the Grenade stops moving forward and just falls to the ground. This gives the appearance that it is hitting an invisible wall.

  1. Open Fallout 4.esm in FO3edit
  2. find the artillery smoke projectile
  3. Copy it as overwrite into new
  4. change the explosion timer to what you want.
  5. save your new plugin

You can look at my Mad Bombers Workshop I have two new versions of the Artillery smoke grenade that work more like the frag. I did find that matching the timer to the frag made the smoke grenade fly too far for my taste. Sometimes it went so far that I couldn't see where it landed.

Edit: Scratch all that!! Seems something has changed in 1.4 and I can no longer see the times in FO4edit.

Wow. You mean the lifetime instead of the range? Okay, makes sense... even if the reason for it doesn't. Odd to do it that way, but interesting. :)

Thank you very much. I'll check out the Mad Bombers Workshop some time too!

Yeah, can't see any timer. I thought you were talking about "lifetime" but that doesn't do anything, I just tried. :(

it was a flag that you could set to delay, or proximity it's gone! I was trying to look it up to give you the exact thing to change but it's gone!!!!! :wallbash:

Edit my mod still works but now shows some errors in xEdit. The flag is still in some ware but likely in some new Unknown.

Just found it:

Explosion - Alt. Trigger - Timer

Set to .8, other grenades are 2.5.

Tested in-game, works like a charm. :)

That's it I still can't seem to find it any more. can you post a screen from xEdit so I can see where you found it again? I checked to see if I needed to update but I'm on xEdit 3.1.3

Here you go. :)

I could see what was in your screen before update 1.4

Edit: No clue what was going on for me but I re-installed xEdit and now all is well. I can find all that info again.
