wesaynothin
Skype If any of you have heard of Skype (or clicked above), what do you think will happen? Another fiasco? Major arrests? Or will it go off without a hitch?
Peregrine
How could it be illegal and end in massive arrests? But as for its success, who knows. It definitely looks like a decent idea.
Nevermore
I don't think it's illegal, just a new type of messanger that uses mainly voice chat insteaad of text based communication. I don't see whats so wonderfull about it, I can speak (voice chat even) with Yahoo messanger why bother getting this? Just so the creators can cram ads in it? Probly. *checks to see how Sype download is coming along*
Mojlnir
Internet based long distance phone service has been around for several years at least. Many gadget catalogs are selling video phone adaptions for both regular phone and PC. There is nothing illegal about this and noone will get arrested, the only fee is your monthly cost of connection (and taxes, if the bastards in D.C. decide to start taxing it). Anyway, communicate freely!
Nevermore
Video adaptions, and whatnot, on phones cost oodles though don't they?
Mojlnir
You know, you'd think so. And honestly I'm not 100% certain, but the video phone devices that I've seen in catalogs from both 'The Sharper Image' and 'Sky Mall' (the evil airborne catalog company that tries to sell useless gadets to trapped travellers...they somehow decided that selling massage chairs and nose hair trimmers on the same page was good marketing...anyway) claim that there is no extra cost to you, the consumer. The skymall contraption says it can be used on a regular phone line with no additional service required. I suspect that there is some sort of modem-esque technology at work here but I don't know enough about it to say for certain. Apparently it works though. And, believe it or not I just found out that this computer doohicky runs on summat called E-lectricity. Fascinating!
