one handed melee weapons on the back

Every melee weapon of that type would be like that though. So people would either start to swing bumper swords with one hand or hold butter knives with two hands.

I could be mistaken though,I know Skyrim works like this, but I am not too sure about NV being the same.

i know im not modder but you can make katana gra two handed while when swinging it become one handed it make it faster for you

It's the strategy I'm essentially using already, but the devil is in the details, and it is still the same time frame (as I several mods to finish first), if I do it. But if you want I can make a quick Odachi/Nodachi (some of us know them as a dai-katana/daikatana), 3+ feet long big brother of the katana, for you to use (until and if) I get around to the mod. It's quick as it's just a editing the original katana model.

Anyway let me know if you want a Odachi to hold you over until I can work on the katana.

Yeah the function can change it for the weaponID, but you can also just swap out a modified weapon via script (which is the strategy I will probably use) for just that user. But the details are painful (timing the animation/capturing key presses etc.....big ol bag of hurt for a non scripter like myself).

lets make odachi with sheath then

No problem to make a odachi, I'm not sure about the sheath, I'd have to see how it's attached. I don't know if it's rigged or a child node of a bone (which impacts orientation, since you want it on the back). I'll probably start with a odachi without sheath, and see about the scabbard a little later. That way you have something right away.

you could also make sheath wearable like armors gloves etc to attach body parts it will equiped upon equiping sword though im not sure how it looks

Yep, and it's part of what I do with my Displaying multiple weapons on your PC mod, but there are additional issues. For instance a rigged sheath won't necessarily move the same way as the blade, because one is rigged or a child node (scabbard), the other placed via the game engine (the weapon). So not only is it a pain to get the two lined up just right (meaning trial and error) but once they are lined up perfectly they may separate with character movement (the blade coming out of it's sheath). I hope to work that out, when I'v had some time to experiment with scabbards, but currently I don't have any experience with them yet.

OK took a look at the sheath and it's pretty simple to figure out.

However the same problem remanins. It will be a pain to position correctly since I have no point of reference or orientation.....basically trial and error (changing position, firing up the game, changing position etc). So essentially, unless I get lucky I probably won't include the sheath, too time consuming and tedious. I put together the weapon and two mods (polished blade, and balanced grip). Later I will add a version that stays sheathed on the back when the Odachi isn't equipped. I may also put in a hot key to change from two handed to single handed melee.

Here is the mod, (for newbies; just unrar to your data folder and select the odachi.esp in your launcher of choice, weapon and both modkits will be added automatically).
