Modding Question

I have been here since FO3 yet I am here for modding. I've dabbled with it off and on depending on my mood and the sorta game I'd like to play. I suppose I am posting this since I've had enough with trying to mod alone. I recall issue after issue that made me not even want to finish Skyrim I've tried tutorials, youtube, even references from modders and others who have done it successfully yet it never seemed to work for me (I am not going to break their back getting my stuff to work).

I am wondering if there is a way to add a bunch of mods consistently without having to spend 6+ hours debugging just to find out some random graphics mod is not compatible with a random dialogue mod. Makes me and I'm sure so many other people not even want to play after this.

I realize people are going to be rather annoyed by my post yet Im done trying to do this alone. I know there is no way some other newbie gamer or someone without coding knowledge hoping to make their game better haven't run into the frustration of modding for days on end just for the game to crash in the same way for the umpteenth time.

If anyone has a resource they believe can help me I'd love to see it.

If there is a better place to post this please by all means move it.

Many mods do not actually interfere with each other; in your example, a graphics mod would generally never interfere with a dialogue mod. Even when they do, it is usually the case that the last one installed will simply override a previous one which changed the same assets and will not cause a crash but only unintended results. It's a no brainer if you download a mod which overhauls companions that it can interfere with your other companion mod so double check the mod page for compatibility issues.

Generally most crashes, CTDs and freezes are rather caused by incorrectly installed mods. The best way to avoid these are by completely reading the read me and instructions provided. This along with spending time learning the file structure and workings of the game files come with experience.

That said there are tools which can help make life easier which I can recommend.

NMM Nexus Mod Manager. It's a download manager and installer, keeps track of your files (even simple replacer, non .esp/esm files) and edits your load order. Highly recommended and easy to use. *Thanks Thandal  *

LOOT probably the most simple, straight forward tool for helping sort your load order automatically. It isn't 100% perfect but helps out a lot.

S.T.E.P. offers various guides on modifying Skyrim with tools and knowledge that often carries over to other Bethesda games.

TES5Edit a more advanced tool for editing mods. You can also create merged patches and open esp/esm mods to see what assets they change and if they will have compatibility issues with other mods.

I hope that helps. Successful modding really just comes down to spending a lot of time reading and understanding directions and figuring out how things work. You will find though that 90% of your crashing and error issues are caused by incorrectly installed mods which reading the full mod description and instructions can avoid.

oh I have NMM and stuff still broke in unknown ways, then again it has been years since I tried to mod things may be different now.

I shall try your advice the next time I mod and hope for different results.

Remember, mods are provide free of charge. By amateurs. If one wants double-click installations with 100% compatibility-plus-support, one should stick with the paid DLC from the professional developers.

Otherwise, "Caveat Lusor". Make back-ups. And, as Fatalmastgerpiece said, learn the game's file-and-folder structure and dig into the mods you like and figure out how they work.

Playing modded games isn't for those who "just want it to work." It's for those willing to put in the effort to MAKE it work. Or at least to understand why it doesn't.

Here's another generic guide to mods for a different series: Using Dragon Age Mods for Dummies.

I just wanted 2 know what happend to the daughter of ares mod i need it to make the ares companion mod work right

You really shouldn't hijack someone else's thread. However you can not find the original mod because the mod author removed it from the Nexus. I thought that the companion mod had all the needed files but I don't have it so I can't be sure. I suggest that you go to the Fallout New Vegas section of the forum and request help there.
