Settlements Across Saves?

Yeah, I know that its irritating to see the "someone ought to do this for me", but once I thought of the idea I really felt it was important enough to share. I'd offer to make it myself, but for various reasons, including lack of modding experience, I don't think I'd be a particularly good match for the job.

It would be fantastic if there was a mod that allowed players to save their settlements in between playthroughs. A lot of players have spent untold hours creating settlements, it makes it really hard to start a new character or playthrough knowing that you're about to lose everything that you built. Even more cool would be the option to be able to decide which settlements would be saved, and which ones would be scrapped to vanilla on the new character.

It would really help improve the replay factor for the game, as each playthrough a person could pick a new area to build and expand upon without necessarily giving up all that they built before. Kind of like in Minecraft, a person's settlements could truly become a story of an individual's experience of Fallout, as you would be able to tour through each area and remember the character that helped define that settlement. It would also help breath some life into the world, as starting a new game file puts a player into a world with pre-established locations, instead of the vanilla sandbox.

It seems pretty obvious that we would have to wait for the G.E.C.K to release before such a mod idea could be explored, but I definitely think that if done well, the mod would be considered a must have for all players.

When I consider the number of times I have replayed various Elder Scrolls and Fallout games (over 40 full plays and over 60 partial plays). The last thing I want to do is have to build settlements everytime I play FO4. While I like building settlements it can become tedious. Being able to import saves would be great. Or you could create a pre emerging from vault quest that allows the building of settlements, all other aspects of the game are disabled. you can only fast travel between settlements and have an unlimited build budget. So when you finally emerge from the vault everything is in place. Then each time you play the game it only starts from the point after the settlements are built. A possible backstory could be 15 years earlier there was an attempt by a group of people to establish settlements that failed and were abandoned.
