Lisnpuppy
Mea culpa, Drake, if I am the one that took this and perhaps blew it up so spectacularly. However there was some request for dialogue and these subjects don't always seems to stay where one wants or intends, though I am not sure they are all completely off-topic (at least not in my convoluted mind? lol.) Simple enough then, to lock the thread if all has been said? I always find the understanding of WHY perhaps, something is done, or having a look at something a bit differently helps ease the way (though of course I was giving only my own views.) I always was frustrated at my parents when I asked why, and their answer was 'because I am the adult', 'because I said so' or some variation thereof especially on those things of which a punitive response would be forthcoming. An explanation, even of which I disagreed made things more understandable to me. The reason, being as important as the result. As such I have carried this forward in perhaps, too many of my endeavors. And as you are aware I am not always known for my brevity. A dialogue was mentioned on a topic that is not always immediately clear, on a still open/unlocked thread and I engaged in a way I felt had not been done. Perhaps though, not my place. Again, my apologies to you all.
DrakeTheDragon
No, it was definitely not you, Lisn, who blew this out of proportion. How can you even think that? It was done several posts before your's already and you were only responding to all the topics it was about "by then", as far as I can see, which is completely fine. The discussion was blown out of proportion and everybody naturally responded to the additional topics as well from that point on. Don't get me wrong, I've got nothing against discussing the other topics as well, far from it, I just failed to understand why exactly they were even brought in to begin with, as they were only derailing the original discussion away from the question that needed answering. And it's also just failure to understand, confusion maybe, and not at all anything close to disagreement or such. Some of the topics needlessly brought up are rubbing me the wrong way, so maybe I'm a bit biased, especially those claiming to be in common interest of both users and authors while in reality they only serve to destroy the relation between both, promoting utmost disrespect of authors' wishes and denial of their rights, only because it's for some "greater good" which will be no good for anybody once everybody left due to it being forced onto them. You can discuss these things all you want, I'm just not seeing this leading to anything else but harm to everybody involved. But that's just me. Prove me wrong, I'll welcome it! I just can't help like feeling this topic suddenly turned into promoting some nefarious agenda instead of discussing a valid concern is all. But maybe that's just my being rubbed the wrong way by it as well. And don't you talk about this being "not your place", or feel like having to apologize for anything, as looking at it from this point of view it wasn't "my place" to respond here either, ever since SirSalami responded first, or it's still "everybody's" place and a public discussion, what it looks like to me. Your input is worth as much as anybody else's in here, likely even more so rather, due to your greater knowledge about the topic than most, also mine. The only ones able to tell us this was not our place to speak in are SirS, Robin, or another one of the higher ups, I will shut up immediately when they say so, but I haven't seen them say as much up to now, and I don't think they will. Last time I checked open discussion is welcomed on here, not frowned upon, as long as it's not discussing a specific moderator action in public or forbidden, or even illegal, topics. That's the only reason for why I chimed in as well. (Though in retrospect now maybe "I" better should not have.)
UhuruNUru
I'd just like to say I've enjoyed debating these topics with all of you, no-ones "blown things out of proportion", even when Thandal slipped into "Rule Quoting Mode", which I pointed out, I wasn't offended, I'm used to Moderators loyalty to the Nexus, they wouldn't be moderators if they were not.I put it down to inexperienced and youthful enthusiasmUnless you never saw a computer at school, you are youthful, I'm an ornery old original gamer, I remember the release of Pong., the original release, long before the First Arcade machineI'm set in my ways, yet have an active and questioning mind, if anyone's to blame for the wide range of debate, it is I alone, have you seen my post's, they go off topic every other sentence, I know my character flaws long rambling posts are one of them.Having said that, no-body was offensive, passionate and convinced they were, right maybe. DrakeTheDragon is passionate about defending authors rights and so am I.Neither Wrye no myself, ever advocated such a thing, we simply believe mods should always be open source, that is the author giving permission. Our main concern is to preserve such work, when for whatever unknown reason, the author can't.I would also postulate this position, While accepting that it's actually not how i wish it was, I saw no "blowing out of proportion, just passionate debate between intelligent people who could disagree, without name calling and tantrums.I do think, though we will never agree on all aspects of this wide ranging discussion, it's a discussion worth having from time to time, the circumstances, may once again change.I'm happy to leave the floor open, for SirSalami or Dark One to speak, I can't resist one parting shot across your bow.Open source isn't theft, it's permission given to all, in advance. Thanks for an entertaining and thought provoking discussion of such a touchy subject, we should do it more often (that was a joke by the way).
