NocturneNight
Hey all, I was wondering abit about factions. I'm playing an evil character so joining the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves' Guild was a must. I also joined the Mages Guild for the ability to enchant and craft my own spells since getting into the Arcane University seems to be the only way to do it. But I'm contemplating wether I should join the Fighter's Guild or not. Thing is, I want to because I'd like to take advantage of their trainers, but I'm not sure if I should from a gameplay perspective. In one of the Oblivion loading screen tips it is stated that "you can make new friends - and enemies - by joining a guild" and I'm wondering, how true is that? Will certain factions like you more or less if you join other factions? Are there any quests (try not to spoil anything!) that involve killing/stealing from another faction (In Morrowind there was a quest to steal from the Mages' Guild, for example.)? Finally, is there any penalty for joining and advancing in all the factions? Also, about fame... What exacly does it do (Besides raising/lowering disposition)? If I want to play an evil character that becomes infamous and feared, can I still have fame points? I'm wondering since I want to get atleast 15 fame so I can buy the biggest houses. But would that screw up my caréer as a villian? :)

The enemies of the Fighter's Guild is the Blackwood Company, and the enemy of the Mage's Guild is the Order of the Black Worm.
NocturneNight
It would make people like you more, the fame would. The enemies of the Fighter's Guild is the Blackwood Company, and the enemy of the Mage's Guild is the Order of the Black Worm. Thank you, but you fail to specify some things; I don't risk ruining my reputation in the Dark Brotherhood and/or Thieves Guild by joining the Fighter's Guild, right? Is Fame/Infamy only about the disposition increase/decrease?

Daledge
It doesn't affect any reputation but in one of Thieve's Guild quests you steal an item from another guild, although you give it back eventually.
