KennethKarl
I was hoping someone could validate this for me: I've been told that Windows 7(Desktop PCs only) is constantly checking for the internet, and if doesn't find it it assumes something is wrong. If this goes on to long it can cause serious problems. Is any of this true? Cause I dont have internet at home and I don't want to destroy my new computer slowly. KDStudios
I have no idea where you heard that but it's completely false.I mean what the hell?I won't even explain how wrong it is because it's just... No. I have been on windows 7 since it was released, 2 of 5 computers are connected to the internet. Satisfied?

Fonger
I wasn't clinging to tightly to the idea, but I had to verify the fact in a reputable community.which of your "friends" won the bet about you posting this in the first place Hinty -- you're the victim of a modern era "Snipe Hunt"(actually worse, but can't post it more clearly here without violating the TOS) Edited June 15, 2011 by Fonger
obobski
I think the only situation that Windows wants the Internet for is WGA validation, but you can do that over the phone if no Internet connection exists (and it's a one time thing after you install the OS). Otherwise exactly what the other posters have told you - it isn't true at all. Some 3rd party applications will want an Internet connection, but they will usually state that on the packaging/in the readme what is required and if it needs to be continuously connected (for example you have to have an Internet connection to play World of Warcraft, but that should be fairly obvious).
