A new top level folder on one of your (non-removable) drives.

C:\AnnoyingDRM\

Edit: :ninja: Yeah games is fine too :)

Install FOMM afterwards.

So install FOMM after I install the game?

Yes Game first then FOMM.

As others have said make a folder in C/ and install your steam folder there. It can be very easy to miss the page where you are given the choice of where to install your Steam folder. I forget exactly what the steam page says but I think it is the page that asks you if you want to make it a custom install. Select yes and then navigate to C and at least in my case I created a new folder called games and installed it in there.

Other programs will say something like "xxxxx" is ready to install to, and then it will show an actual file path to where it is going to install the program and there will be a browse button to use to change the install directory path. Just go slow and pay attention to the installer set up pages as you click through them. I forget which method steam uses but it is one or the other. It is the custom install method that is really the easy one to miss. I have even missed that one myself before by clicking through the setup pages to fast and miss it. Click click click OOPPPPs! :)

The reason for doing this is because the programs 86 and program folders are very heavily protected by the windows UAC security system. On my own system those folders are practically useless and I never install anything in them. There are various work arounds and convolutions akin to mating elephants to make these folders more usable but on other forums I have visited that specifically deal with "How to's" for windows UAC the results are mixed.

The simplest and safest fix that actually works is just do not use them for any kind of program such as games, zip programs, editing programs such as code editors or word processing that require saving your work, photo shop type programs etc or any other program that you may want to edit or update later on.

I personally use my own folder that I created in C. My file path looks like this,

C:\Games\Steam

Just like what Buddha said. I put all my games in C so having a designated games folder keeps things neat and tidy
