BrokenMessiah
In Oblivion I noticed that there are a lot off books to read, but do they have any purpose other than just to read? I know in Fallout, when you read a book you get a bonus in a stat
Balakirev
I found that the books in Morrowind seemed (to me, at least) more relevant to things in the game, but certainly they're not irrelevant in Oblivion. They give a great background in lore--it's just some of the lore (the Dummer temple and history, the Empire's religious structure and tests, etc) seems to have faded into a more generic "medieval storybook" game. But I read every one of them, and I love the lot.
schijnn
Some books give skill bonuses, others don't. UESP has a list of all the skill books and where you can find them.
crudius
If you use something like Oblivion XP which changes the levelling system, then yes you can can a benefit for reading all books (xp awarded) You still get the bonus for reading the vanilla skill books. You can find list and locations for skill books on the various wiki's out there. I use Oblivion XP in which you can push levelling all the way to 255. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35333 Worth a look.
Adrius2
Now that I use Oblivion XP I've become obsessed with collecting books, but I used to read them all earlier too. COBL adds a lot of awesome books as well. I especially like the vampire themed ones... they always have a nice twist at the end :). Lady Tressed hehe...
